3840 x 2160 single screen?

Well heres the scoop i had a gateway xhd3000 and ive had major strobing/flickering problems to the point it forced me to buy a temporary a 23" lg led. The monitor has a very nice picture however i miss the larger resolution/ screen size. So i started to do alittle research. To come to my suprise i found a few monitors that actually exceed the 30 resolution of 2560 x 1600, most of which are not avalible in the us. The ones that are have a redicous mark up to 60,000 usd+. I did some further research and came across an interesting LED based television called the CELL REGZA that has a resolution of 3840 x 2160. This would be perfect by running a pair of dvi d cables. so heres what i ask you fellow members do you know of when this screen will actually hit the usa market (im hearing sept) . Do you know any other screens that match the 4k2k resolution that i could pick up instead? Baically i wanna be completely submerged into games/ my cad work etc... with out having to use multiple screens.
 
I have no idea about the screen but i can tell you that altho the 4890 is a good card it is no were near good enough to be even remotely playable on newish games at that res (even in crossfire like you have), try find some reviews were they used 2560x1600 res on the 4890, it isnt all that nice (prety much single number fps across the board) for cad work i can see it being nice to have tho.
 
the 4890 is actualy a monster the only downside is it eats power,but even tho yes it is a monster and you have 2 of them,al 5870 would struggles with that res
 
well IMO thats the last this i would upgrade,for the cash for the monitor you could get a few ugrades depending on what they were
 
To get full immersion in games, you are better off getting the screen to wrap around you (eyefinity), that monitor is $11K, which would buy a few 30" screens, which would be much better. To be honest unless you fancy plumping for two ares, I wouldn't bother, as you need huge gpus to power that res.
 
ehh i think the 4890s can handle basic games for now. the main issue being with 3 30's would be the simple fact of bezels. they drive me insane. Which is the oringal reason i went for a 30" instead of 3 24's. the cell regza according to cnet will be 6700 USD msrp. seems like alot but i feel worth it.

as for gpu power in the new rig im looking at tri sli ;)

so far ive seen the eizo rapid fire, sony and westing house 4k2k monitors and the sapphire. the sony and the sapphire are not avalible in the usa and lack knowing someone to import. Westinghouse never got back to me. Eizo wants 55k because its a medical monitor. Anyone see any other brands or sugguestions?

ive also looked into that seamless designs one were its 3 30" without a bezel but the lack responding. anyone else know anything about those?

I've got a better idea. Take all your money from the bank, go down the garden with a gallon of plus and set it all on fire. Tri SLI is hardly supported in anything and unless it is it actually performs worse than SLI.

If you absolutely cannot control yourself and must do it for the bragging rights? sure, go right ahead. But don't say you haven't been warned. TRI SLI is very finicky and you will end up ripping hair out. Couple of years ago a friend of mine went Classified/tri 285 and within two months had given one of them away. It just didn't work.
 
its the games and software that do all the scaling not the GPU them selves,1 480 will be enough for a long time

or even a 5870
 
think a pair of 5870 2gb or an ares will be enough with my current setup to hold this big boy at bay untill i get the next rig together. Im kinda waiting on the next socket before i go crazy with it.
 
hmm heres a thought im going to look into tomorrow... as my xhd3000 is sitting at my work right now in pieces (was attempting to reflow it) how much of a gap there will actually be between 30" screens if i remove the bezel say for the price of the cell regza i did 4 30" monitors as one or a 30" triple wrap around and made my own housing from them out of fiberglass or something?
 
hmm so you wanna remove the bezil,i guess its do able but i am shure if you break it then ur out of warrenty
 
thats what i was thinking it was a big gamble... im going to look into it tomorrow when i go to work and see how much of a gap will actually be there... see if its realistic to do with out risking to much... if i can just make a housing to do a direct drop in thatd be snazy and if i had to warranty one i could just pop it back in its oringal housing..... tamper seals are easy to get around ;)

again this idea was sorta just pulled out the air
 
alienware/dell had a 40x12 inch curved display in the works that actual curved smoothly with a res of 2880x900 (32:10 ratio?) it aparently boasted a sub 1ms reponse time aswell,

EDIT: after a quick google it apears NEC were the heart and brain of it at the cost of 7,999 USD each you can have one (released last summer), looks like its led backlit with 0.01ms response from some more googles, if you google 'NEC CRV43' you should get plenty of results

The scaling may indeed be fantastic but SLI is driver dependent. Crossfire is not, however, sometimes it does need a profile from ATI to use it to the fullest.

SLI however MUST have a driver in order to work. SLI was taken from 3DFX when Nvidia took over, Crossfire was designed a lot more recently. Also, Crossfire allows you to use any GPU from the same family (so example a 5870 and a 5770) where as SLI needs the exact same GPU..

The problem with tri SLI arises because so few people use it. Sure, it may be a synthetic animal (benchmarks) but Nvidia simply don't bother to support it as well as they should. It is a bit of a false economy spending time and money on supporting it because as I say, few people use tri SLI. It's expensive, it's hot (infact given their latest statement on leaving space between the GPUs it's almost physically impossible too) and it guzzles power. It also needs a seriously hefty PSU and that money would all be much better spent on a dual SLI with a faster CPU or some SSDs.

It might look good and it might sound good on paper but it's fools gold tbh. As I said, if you wipe your bum with $50 bills? Then by all means go for it for the bragging rights (if you really need the attention and are one of those types). But personally as I say, that money would be FAR better spent elsewhere.
 
nope i dont wipe my bum with $50 bills... i was just trying to get the most performance i can with having issues or paying for 0 performance upgrades... on a side note debezel will not yeild the results i had in mind.... i guess ill just have to hope for the best with the cell regza
