Its time for an upgrade. I have a question about cooling the 3770k on my new rig. Having seen many reviews in the nh-d14 as well as the h100 and 3770k I was wondering if the h100 would preform better on the 3770k vs the d14. The h100 would be run with stock fans at the lowest setting. My overclock would be limited to whatever I can achieve that keeps the temps in the low 70's on a burn in test. Of course every review show the d14 besting the h100 in that(quiet) configuration but I wonder if water can more effectively cool the smaller area of the 3770k then the d14 can. think about it like this, even though the h100 may be able to dissipate less heat from the radiator at low fans than the d14 (with both being at the same temp) maybe it can draw heat into the cooler faster than the d14. on such a small chip you can see cases where the chip is overheating yet a massive cooler like the d14 stays relatively cool.
I would be interest in knowing ttl's temp comparison between the two(on the 3770k oc'ed) as I believe he has tested them both on the same chip. right now im leaning towards the d14 because of price, the issues of pump noise and wear as well as cost of replacement in the event of failure(cost of fan vs cost of new cooler). also temp would skyrocket much faster on the h100 if the pump fails vs fan failure of the d14. Still I really like the look of the h100 and would like to consider its use if it was simply more effective(on the 3770k oc'ed) by a few degrees on low fans then the d14. Also i'm not sure if low stock fans on the h100 is the same noise level as the d14 on full fans. and one more question the cooler master case can support a 360mm radiator is there a recommended cooling solution that has a 360mm radiator near the price of the h100. Thank you.
