360 to get Blu-Ray?

i hope sony slaps a massive premium on the blu-ray tech

take microsoft to the cleaners if they want to smut their format up with a lower company

An article I read stated that Microsoft didn't care about the whole HD / Blu-Ray competition, as the 360 can accomodate either drive, much like a PC

I think you'll find Sony will be pretty accomadating this time, although it will be a big fee. They've learnt some lessons from Betamax

Good to know, but i'm happy watching blu-ray on the PS3 :) you can buy a HD-DVD drive for the 360 for £40 now... No point though :p

I can imagine this being quite expensive though.. This is kinda like the Virgin vs Sky debate. Virgin (360) is good but Sky (PS3) is just better :)

Little unsure as to why the articles says "now thanks to a little help from Sony the Xbox will live on.". why would the 360 die without an hd-dvd add-on? if the drive was internal and used hd discs for games then yeah sure it might of.

Thankfully for sony's sake blu-ray won as if it didnt, you would certainly say good bye to the ps3.

Sony wont be allowed to put a big premium on the blu-ray drives.

I'll agree though i do like the specs of blu-ray, i just hope the prices will continue to lower now its a 1 horse race.

hmmm wouldn`t say no point.

£40... and I bet an ebay full of films.. not to mention shops and rentals throwing movies away for peanuts..

It`s definately a disposable venture tho.

Betamax is still out there >.< Studios use them.

Rack`em up Sony.

Well neither is totally true.. If either had won the war and both 360 and PS3 had internal drives for either BR or HD-DVD then they could still go on to produce games in that fomat. Only problem being consumers wouldn't be able to keep getting up to date films to watch on their console.

Just making it a more interesting read.. but lets be honest, the 360 would lose a lot of sales. :)

Yes, because of course the console that has sold best this generation despite being introduced a year later can play DVD's and Blu-ray disks. :rolleyes:

actually, your wrong. The Wii is waaaay ahead! :p

Wii = 22.33M

360 = 17.42M

PS3 = 10.70M

DS = 68.04M

PSP = 31.64M

Sorry, I was being sarcastic, I though the eye roling smiley would have done the trick. My point was that people buy consoles for the console, not as a movie player.

The Wii isn't really true "Next Gen", they attacked the market from a very different angle and it worked out.

The Wii is a great concept, done very well so well done to ninty, same with the DS

The PS3 will catch up somewhen, although I feel that the 360's sales may drop off a bit after some decent games come out on the PS3

Also, game shops have now started recommending PS3 as the No. 1 console to buy
