Hi guys,

I'm building a mate a pc in a few weeks, he was gunna have my old Phenom 965, but for a first build i think it's best he has all new parts, especially cpu and motherboard.

So, what do you lot recommend?

Gunna be used for gaming and every day use.

He's also wanting an SSD, with a storage drive as well, after that, parts are up to you guys!

For the price he's going with a 128gb Crucial M4 and a 1tb WD Green, so please factor those in

Thanks in advance

If he doesn't overclock then i'd still keep the 'k' series (and encourage him to come to the forums and have a go!)

He / I will be overclocking it dont worry!

Looks good, but may drop down to a 7850 to save costs and get a D14 or something I think. Thanks though

You won't need a d14 for ivy bridge to be honest. Something like this:

Will get you most of the way for an overclock and paying another £30 to get another 200mhz or whatever will have no noticable impact! This is taken from a 2500k test @ 4.7. I'd expect you to get comfortably into the mid 4ghz on IB with it.

Better to keep the higher spec gpu imo but that's just my opinion
