2nd 6990 same problem

something that i have not tried that maybe, JUST MAYBE might work is BIOS 1. Maaybe BIOS 2 i has a little bug in it.

Its a long shot but its worth a try.

An update in terms of a find or solution to my problem.

I switched the bios on my 6990 from 2 to 1. While playing battlefield my screen did not flicker black like it did occasionally before. But the game still crashed (by crashed i am referring to game freezing). I left my computer alone while it was frozen on BFBC2 for about 20 minutes to see if it would crash to desktop and give me a driver error, but no such luck. I had to do a hard reboot.

I then went to the final solution and moved my 6990 to the other x16 PCI-E lane so i can confirm that it is not the lane that is broken. I also reinstalled 11.5 drivers with 11.5 CAP1. I will update again with results on how this works out.

Hmm, have you got msi after burner or fraps running? if i have MSI AF on BC2 will randomly freeze/crash.

unfortunately because of my 6990 i NEED afterburner running in the background, do to fan options and temp monitoring.

But something interesting came up just now while i was playing. The game DID freeze but instead of it crashing completely i pressed "ctrl alt del" and i get a message saying your game has crashed. Now i just have to find a way to relate that to when my GPU was on my other PCI-e lane.

So while reading around i am finding out that disable CCC should be the fix to the majority of my issues. I have also heard that it can disable without crashing the driver, is this possible? Is there a way to disable it or do i have to go through the Windows Task Manager?

Also should i disable CCC along with MOM.exe?

FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apperantly it has to do with my sound card. i removed it and everything works!! Now i just have to figure out why that is.

Cinbench sometimes says it has 'crashed' but really it's the overclock isn't stable. Could be the same for this

Do you not even have a back up card?

I just sold my 5870. but i do have a 9600gt
