2nd 6990 same problem

I think i am just going to remove my 6990 until i get my water block. i just emits to much heat for me to bare.

My room temp is hovering in the high 80s to low 90s.

summer is upon me in Phoenix AZ and temps are right now in the low 90s so that is not helping any. in just a few more days temps are going to be in the 109f range.

dont ya just hate it when summer does that

I live in Texas while not as hot as AZ it can be harsh on comps lol god I love my central AC

so tell ya what I'll do for ya buddy
biggrin.gif
send me ur 6990 and I'll run it with my 560 for physics lol and keep her running 4 ya

hahhaha

seriously though heat suxs totally but now that you mention it I am wondering how a wc setup will work for you if your room is that warm already. I mean dissipating heat air vs water is still gonna warm up ur room. the heat is the same its just the way ur managing it is different. I'm sure the wc loop will be a tad cooler room wise GPU wise def cooler just not overly sure of room temp lol. Something to consider for sure

I think the EK block is ur better option as well bro

although.... my nights get pretty cold low 60s right now. I may just reinstall my 6990, find a good stable underclock (a clock to were i can hopefully cut the heat in half) and put it back to normal when the night comes. but what i am missing is a stable underclock

.

i can have this card underclocked pretty far considering this thing is a MONSTER!

Probably the power supply but I do notice my fan (6950 TF) can make a flickery crackling noise (very very mild) if I have a 3D application running but is minimised rather than straight on the screen. Might be something in the design of the card

Because i do not want to start a second thread i will post here. I AM STILL GETTING CRASHING IN BFBC2 and other games?! There is no BSOD, the game just freezes and sometimes goes black and stays there until i turn off the power manually. WHY? This happened with both my Sapphire 6990 and Diamond 6990. Am i just not lucky when it comes with getting cards or could this be a potential driver issue? it is really getting annoying.

All my CCC settings are stock.

:Raises hand: I know the answer but ur not going to like it

The problem is :drumroll:

Its not an Nividia card

lol bro I know it sucks but I wish I had a real answer for ya. I'm thinking it may be a heat issue what are they like when it happens????

they are quite low. i checked the Vram, Vreg's, core, are all under 65c. Vreg's being the hottest. I REALLY HOPE ITS A DRIVER!

Speaking of explosions, I feel an Ati vs Nvidea debate about to spontaneously combust!

naww of course not. we all know ATi is better, and if you dont like go die.

jk

tbh i like nvidia better but i wanted the fastest single slot GPU and the 6990 fit that bill a little better than the 590 did. not by much but it did. If i knew for a certian i would have stuck with air cooling i would have gone for the 590, but because i am water cooling the 6990 takes the cake.

You're gonna drive Tom up the wall with that single gpu computer illiteracy

lol naw we all know why one exploded and the other didnt
biggrin.gif
its simple the ATI crashed (couldn't hang) before it could explode while the nvidia kept on pluggin away til it went BOOM!!!!!!!!!!

no seriously lol its gotta be drivers then bro if it only hit 65c I'm sure the threshold is abit higher there. I'm with others though whats so hard about making drivers to support the products you sell I mean come on ATI and NVIDIA you make the shite why cant ya make it work right

well its not that the driver does not work its that there are SO many game engines out there that they have to make an individual working part of the driver to be friendly with that engine. and it seems that the ATi drivers do not like the Frostbite engine or the Steam engine. I also crash in L4D2, same kind of crash too.
