I picked up a Philips ultra wide 29inch monitor with a res of 2550 x 1080p from pc world for cheap since the plug was missing not gonna moan about that,

Any way I'm currently using a evga 750 1gb and its ok for old games so I was wondering what you would suggest to play most games at say medium settings? would prefer nvidia only demanding game I will buy soon is gta 5 rest of my games are not demanding

Or if you fancy better power phases and build quality.

I can't really recommend the 970 because at your resolution the piss weak memory bandwidth becomes a problem.

Personally I would hunt down a second hand Titan or Titan Black. Far better memory bus and heaps of VRAM.

hmm never thought about going amd always preferd nvdia but ill have a look at your suggestions

That 290X Matrix I've had and it's the biggest piece of shit I've ever owned, The temperatures on that thing were horrendous and made the side of my case hot, Yes, HOT.

They literally just got the 780 Ti Matrix cooler and dropped it onto the 290X Matrix without modifying it, Total POS, Same goes for the 290X DCUII.

If you're going to go for a 290X then go for the Sapphire Vapor X as that has really good cooling.

As for not enough memory bandwidth, Rubbish, I've been playing around with a borrowed 970 at 1440P for the better part of a week now with max settings in games like GTAV minus AA, BF3+4 etc.... with frames hovering around the 60 mark.

IMO Sapphire & XFX are the go to cards for AMD, TBH ASUS, Gigabyte & MSI can't really make good AMD cards, I'm only going from the Brands that i can buy here

Very true, Sapphire make the best from experience followed closely by XFX.

Asus from personal experience make the worst cooling solutions for AMD cards.

Any 780Ti/970/290X that tickles you and is well reviewed is a good choice in my opinion. You will find issues with literally all of them on the internet somewhere but they all have an appropriate amount of performance and vram for 2560x1080 and can be found under/on your budget.

I really rate MSI Lightnings above most of the others, Classifieds are exceptional under water, I wouldn't shout too hard about Matrix's but they are pretty if your into ROG. For shear quality and feel reference nVidia cards are hard to beat, having said that there are quieter alternatives, but they still feel like they had by far the most design consideration. If you stepping up from a 750 you won't be disappointed.

In all fairness we are in part discussing cards that aren't currently available, of whats sitting on the shelf right now this deserves a look - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-205-OK

^^^ This.

But please stay away from the 290X Matrix if you value your rig internals not melting, As JR said the 290X Lightning is another good one, Pretty much the best along side Sapphire.

I'm not hating on AMD, Just the cards Asus produced for them.

I'm looking a one of these myself seeing as my MSI Gaming R9 290 died on me last week after only having it for a month I had the Strix gtx970 but sent it back as I had a hissy fit over the specs issue sadly AMD have nothing better to offer atm
