Also the temps are getting into the mid / high 60's so i might just want to wait till i get my noctua focus flow's in push pull for my H60... Tryin 5 ghz @ 1.350 volts after the 4.7 is stable for 30mins and ill run all the tests again during school so this post is gonna be updated tomorrow for 4.7 ghz 6 hours and friday for 5ghz 6 hours

6 hours of 70 - 73 degrees wont damage it anyway...

Correction on the tempratures , my fan profiles were messed up i didnt have the case fans turned up 100% so now i did and i get 61 degrees @ 1.312 volts (1.285 in bios)

those are 4.5 Ghz and the 4.7 Ghz settings are the same just with a 47 x Multi instead of 45 and 1.285 volts instead of 1.250 , tell me if they're all good cause i got them from a youtube video xD

Ok so 5 ghz was a big nono , as soon as i get into windows it freezes and then goes black , no blue screen so no error code... Im now doing 4.9 ghz @ 1.384 v (1.355 in BIOS) and its almost done with 8K im gonna let this run for an hour and ill post of it worked and what the temps were

Btw why does 4.9 need SO MUCH more volts than 4.7?? 1.314 --> 1.384 for only a 200mhz difference

Great overclocking there mate !, as for the massive increase of volts, that's normally a sign of starting to hit the cap of the CPU. but no need to worry cause you do have your self a beastly chip there. definitely did well in the chip lotto. there's no need to worry if your hitting the cap, just means you'll have to live with a whopping 4.7 - 4.9GHz stable overclock which is a very decent clock to be hitting stable. nice one !

im gonna do the 4.7 ghz as a 24/7 cause it needs alot less volts and in gonna use the 4.9 for video rendering

still running prime95 and its been 45 minutes so i dont think its gonna crash

im still confused though why can it do 4.9 but not 5.0 its such a little difference... I think its my motherboard saying nope tbh cause its not meant for overclocking (asus p67 sabertooth) ill get a cinebench score on here soon just gonna go eat and then ill stop prime and run cinebench

Run Prime 95 for at least 8 hours before you call it 24/7, mine has blue screened 3-6 hours in at times, you want to make sure it is stable or you'll find out too late and maybe corrupt data / suffer some form of data loss which could be annoying. its also a good idea to run a different CPU stress after you complete a 8 hour run of Prime 95 as others can pick up on different problems I use Prime 95 and OCCT 8 hours per run "DON'T RUN TOGETHER" this is what Tom advised me. Also listen to Rock FM to make it not so boring

Yeah 4.7 ghz seems to need more volts and so does 4.9 but i was too tired , i got 7.66 on cinebench with 4.9 though so i wanna try it again tomorrow

Edit: bed time for me so no more messing around till tomorrow im gonna try 4.7 ghz @ 1.300 (1.330) cause it bluescreened at 1.285 (1,314) but not when running prime... It bluescreened during a bf3 match :/ any explaination for that?

Read the blue-screen stop code the last 3 numbers then reference it to the website I linked to on the previous page it stats what course of action is needed depending on what stop code.

Yeah but it didnt bluescreen during prime95 it bluescreened while playing bf3 and it needed more volts but bf3 doesnt stress it as much as prime does , ill add more voltage tomorrow

thats why rohiric was saying to load with different appz to stress the processor in different ways to simulate different versions of stress.

something in that scenario of gaming got garbled and didn't make sense to the cpu and poof the color blue. either voltage or ram

stability i'd bet. compare the bsod code to the link to trace the issue and correct.

Upping the volts is fine, it's not the chip you have to worry about, its the motherboard. Unless it is a top notch OC board try to stay away from the 1.5v try not to go passed 1.48 again unless you have a good board. I have gone to 1.55v and a 5.8ghz (which was stable for only about 10 minutes) OC on my board before but I also have a ASUS maximus gene-z gen3 which can take the massive volts.

yeah im done with the overclocking , settled at 4.5 Ghz @ 1.250 volts for a 24/7 OC and then 4.9 @ 1.395 volts for rendering video's

4.9 Ghz gave me 7.66 in cinebench

looping 3d/pcmark is my fave way for some real world tests as these load the whole system unlike torture tests which only load cpu and or ram.

gratz dude, you got yourself a nice chip if it stays stable at those volts

Yea i find running 3D mark or other benchmarks boring i'll just play some hours of battlefield 3
