I don't think I could squeeze a second GPU in a mATX system without sacrificing my crappy sound card.

take the sound card out and use the rear i/o ports for best sound. Sound cards just make the sound louder not better. Do not by any means use the front panel sound to much noise on those.

The difference between the Asus Sabertooth Z87 onboard sound and my Xonar is night and day, Used the same headphones and the difference is audible straight away, If you can't tell the difference between a high quality soundcard and onboard sound then you either have bad hearing or low quality headphones/headset.

loudness does not make better but thats what sound card manu's are banking on when they sell them. The amount of sound they actually kill is whats unbelievable. I dont use headsets at all and my sound is amazing coming from onboard to my speakers.

I think it would be a good idea to wait until at least this time next year for the dust to settle.

The first Maxwell offerings won't be that quick as I think we will see something along the lines of what NVidia did with the GK104 and then later launching the GK110.

Haswell E won't be everyone's cup of tea but I will be interested, again I won't jump in until it has been around a few months so I can see what RAM and mobo manufacturers have to offer first.

Yes I've seen that video, And do you notice the person saying all this has a company that sells stand alone DACs and he's praising them ?!

I tested both my onboard and soundcard with very low levels of volume and they were the same in volume but the soundcard has better quality sound.

The video above you can forget as he's just promoting his DAC that he's selling

Trust me when I say I don't care if it's a soundcard or onboard audio, If one is better than the other I will use it but at the moment onboard is not as good as a dedicated device, When it is I will happily use it

I plan on buying a new monitor in the new year, perhaps a Korean 1440p or a 1080p panel.

my old 1080p monitor chugs along but is showing its age/ slowly dying, has a strange sharpness issue with text making writing more difficult now, especially given all the reports i have been writing lately for uni. (want 1440p so its a full upgrade rather than just a change to an IPS panel, expensive though, even with the cheap Korean panels).

No other changes are planned, depends on financial situation and if there is any need for it. nothing requires my dual hd 7870s to be ran higher than stock ATM and my amd 1090t is more than good enough for now.

I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon .
The build ( my 1st ) in my sig. is a year old and is doing fine at the moment.
As much as I'd like to build another , I'll probably wait until late 2014 or 2015 .

i,ll be upgrading a few things in my system in 2014 . ive just recently got tired of the none existing updates,bios issues and the few dead usb ports on my old asrock x79 extreme 9.i ended up installing a asus p9 x79 le .wich ive found to be a brilliant board for its price .as for the upgrades i think its time to wave goodbye to my tiered out 660 ti (currently oc to 960mhz core without the boost) and get either the 770 or the r9 290 .i will be starting a new build log soon for this as a new case will be on order within the next few days . the case ill be using is the phanteks enthoo primo ultimate . also on the cards 2 alphacool nexXxos ut60 480mm rads and of course ill be getting better fans fors this build so guess looks like ill be upgrading again. dam you upgrade bug hahahaha

I think I'll probably sit on the majority of my gaming rig until 2015 at the least.

I might get a non-reference R9 290 to replace my 7950 boost when they're available, but then again my 7950 boost is performing fine; I can max all the games I play currently. I could also do with a new monitor, my current one is over 4 years old now, maybe I might get a 1440p one, to make the R9 290 worthwhile if I do get one. Either way, I'll be spending much less on PC hardware in 2014 than 2013. ^_^

My next big upgrade will probably be 2015. Being an AMD fan, I'll see what AMD have to offer if we actually do get another FX plaform then. Failing that I suppose I could opt for Intel's X99 and Haswell-E.

I'll be buying a new GPU within the next week or two, torn between a 290 and a 780 at the moment :\
I don't see the need to upgrade my CPU, mobo or RAM though. Anything other than going 2011 is just a side grade and going 2011 is pointless and a waste of money for me because I don't do anything that requires the power of a 2011 CPU.
I might grab a 2700k or 3770k if games start to show a good performance gain from multi threading.
