I'm looking to build a gaming PC. Ive priced out the cooling and processor (i7 2600k) but I don't know about gpu or mb. Id really appreciate some help!

So I though I knew what I was going to get until I found out I knew nothing about building bloody computers! I've already had some help in the MB and GPU forum but thought I'd come here to keep it all in one place. I know what power supply, ram and hdd I'm getting but thats about it. I'm desperate for some. Help ASAP! So that I can build this thing before summer comes around. I'm ordering the cooling kit from toms g1 assassin build on YouTube.

Really I need to know about what CPU, GPU, MB and case to get Thanks guys you've been helpful already!

(p.s I was looking for a case like the corsair ones, smart and with a nice finish + window)

Corsair Power supply, maybe around 850W

A nice full sized case or a big medium tower, corsair 650d, haf x etc maybe even the 700d

what cooling are you having? if its stock your getting then get a Noctua NH-D14

i would get a Gtx 580 probably a MSI

2600k with a MSI P67A-GD65 would be good

Mushkin callisto SSD 64GB would enough

1TB 7200rpm drive for storage

would go for 8GB of the ridgebacks

Think i got everything there and tbh that would only be 1K you could throw in a beefy psu and sli 580s a water loop, 8GB ram a bigger SSD and all of that but this would be fine for gaming

As I said in the last post, your wasting your money on a 2600K for a gaming rig as the 2500K is just as fast but it's your rig.

How many monitors did you want to use on this PC and are you interested in installing a second graphics card later?

Is the watercooling kit 240 or 360mm rad? cause if its the 360 you can't use the Corsair 650D

If its the 240 rad i would go for the 650D just cause i think it's smarter looking case and its got the front intake

If its the 360 rad and you still want the corsair series I'd reccomend the 800D because that the one with the window, it looks similar to the 650D but its quite alot bigger and it doesn't have a front intake.

For the CPU I'd choose the 2500k because you wont see much more performance in stock and overclocking from the much more expensive 2600k (around £90 more)

Personally I prefer the ASUS MB If you've got a big budget You could go for the P67 Maximus IV Extreme or the P8P67 Deluxe

If you want Gigabyte there's the P67 U7 or U5

You might want to have a quick look if you Would prefer the P67 or Z68 Chipset personally Im prefer the p67 (but im no expert)

as for MSI I dont really know much about them (but thats definatley not saying they're good i just not clued up about them)

You have to decide for yourself whether you want a AMD or NVidia GPU (I personally use AMD) I think MSI are a good manufactuer for both

I think the best Nvidia card on the market atm is the GTX 590

And with AMD its the HD6990

these two are very expensive

Also on your high budget you could look into SLI or Crossfire

For the Power supply i'd go for a corsair like villian said the AX series is a good one and definately a 850W or more

What have you specced out already for yourself? Would be much easier to comment on a 'idea' than just trying to pick stuff out you might not fancy.

Cpu- If you're not looking to do much sept gaming then the 2500K is your best bang for buck.

Motherboard- with your budget, the gigabyte Z68 UD7 or the p67 UD7 if you can find it and prefer.

GPU- Again, your budget is huge so i'd be looking at 2xGTX 570's personally.

PSU- You're gonna need atleast 850W so i'd take a good look at the corsair AX 850W or seasonic equivalent.

And also, make sure you get a nice 60-120GB SSD drive, for the OS and essential programs.

And as for a case, i personally love the clean look of the corsairs, and you're watercooling which is perfect for either the 700 or 800d depending on whether to want the window.

Well I'm going to be getting about 6BG of ram and the i7 for when I do some video encoding/ect. So now all I need is a compatable GPU and motherboard, I'll be using 2 monitors in the near future also! Thanks for the advice guys!

If you are getting a i7 2600K you will need 4 or 8gb of RAM because 1155 is dual channel.

How much do you have to spend on a motherboard because there are quite a few to choose from at different prices, but if you are going to be using two monitors and want to SLI/CF later on the Gigabyte UD7 will probably be the best because it runs two cards at x16 x16.

For a GPU, seen as you will be using two monitors a 2gb model would be good if you are using a single card or two 1gb for dual cards. For a single card something like a 2gb 6950 would be good or if you want two cards something like 2 560ti's would be good as well.

This is just an example, do some research on some graphics cards and the different P67/Z68 motherboards and decide which ones would be the best for you.

+1 This is everything I was going to say

Ow, apart from underlining the fact that the more memory your graphics card has the better when it comes to multiple monitor setups.

Maybe not a 590, a 570 with a nice overclock and good aftermarket cooler would do good though, traditionally quad-sli has never worked that well so two 570's would probably be better for the money.

My understanding is that 1gb cards in sli/crossfire does not equal 2gb of memory, it is still just 1gb.
