main pc spec in sig

i need a little help, budget is a tight £200

for £200, i would like

Processor & cooler (preforably not stock, i sleep with the machine on, i dont wish to be deafened, but i know my budget will not stretch to a D-14)

motherboard

ram

graphics

i have HDD's, psu, case, moniter, keyboard, mouse, and software

i will point out i am not a gamer, so graphics dont matter so much to me however, i would like a gfx card with hdmi/dvi out ...both preforably, as i have both out on my current card (which i think is knackered

)

i have a spare HDD, incase the HDD is the problem:

but everything else

somthing a little faster than i have now, would be nice, low power, would be nice, must fit in my case and work with my psu, which is a corsair 520W builders series.

case is a lian li pc-7bk

or if you have a better idea for it, please do sugest

i wanted a mac mini, but 500 is a bit too far out of my budget, 200 is the MOST i am wiling to spend btw, if it can be managed for less, it would be good

i like AMD, but i would go intel if i had to....dont make me unless i have no other choise

EDIT: i posted one of these threads a while ago, but at the time ££ was more of an issue than i thought, hell, it still is, but ....sod it, needs must ey?

Asus M5A78L/USB3 AMD Socket AM3+ £56

AMD Athlon II X4 640 Socket AM3 3GHz £77

G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600mhz Ripjaws £22.50

Zalman CNPS10X QUIET £33.70

This will eat your old rig for dinner, and some.

I make that £188, witch is bargain for the performance you will get.

The zalman cooler kicks ass and its silent, ive have had one my self it rocks for 33 pounds

With the 640 cpu and that board you can hit 4 on boot up and it will unklock the hidden l3 cache to 8mb, making it a phenom 2 cpu and not an athlon.

Thats the very best your going to get for the money with out a doubt.

Edit: all the prices are from ebuyer.

my own idea was this:

AMD Athlon II X4 640 £77.60

the gpu has a whopping 2gb of ram witch is great, and it easily beets your old 3850 any day.

Yer not bad but the gpu is rubish, you wont be able to game on it at all.

IMO stay away from bulldozer.

the first and last time you will ever hear this on this forum:

"that graphics card is too powerful for me, i dont need that, i dont game" ...i will probably be running linux on this rig, the most it will be doing is HD films....

the graphics card i specified is almost overkill for what i need...

can you cut the graphics and boost the rest?

...and you have no ram with that, i assume my DDR would be useless?
tongue.gif

my idea is:

processor: 50 - 60

ram: 20 - 40

mobo: 50 - 60

cooler 20 - 30

graphics: 30 (max)

price roughly...

third time lucky?

Asus M5A78L-M LX AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £38.98

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) £89.99

Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz £22.99

ATI Radeon HD 5450 SILENT 512MB GDDR3 £23.99

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 £19.99

= £195.94

As your not gaming the bulldozer chip will be even beter than the 640 cpu, bulldozer has some problems with gaming gpus atm.

price vrs performance for what you want the rig to do, this is great. Ive built more than 50 rigs, and let me tell you this is day light tech robbery.

That ram is fine, the board will be more than perfect for what you need it for, any better and your paying for features you will never going to use.

Its the same board thats in the bundle.

Once your all up and running let me know and ill be more that happy to do a quick remote accesses and cheak it all over for you, if you would like that.

and stuck with AMD, brilliant
biggrin.gif

so, ill add it to the 'legacy list'

processors in my main rig in order:

Duron 1500+

Athlon xp 2600+

Athlon xp 3000+

Athlon xp 3200+

Athlon 64 (754) 3000+

Athlon 64 (939) 3000+

Athlon 64 (939) 3500+

Athlon 64 (939) 4000+

Opteron (939) 1.86 (OC'd to 3.2)

C2D Conroe E6600 (died after 3 months)

C2D E6300 @ 3GHz (died after 2 weeks)

Athlon 64 4200+ (939) lasted 5 years+

And now:
