18k in 3dm05 broken.

Well, there true power is in games, and it's still early days. I for one am not impressed with the price, especially within 6monthsa new next gen will be out.

I`d say give it time. I`m expecting 20K to be broken by the end of the week?

I guess a lot of the best benchers were already up around the stock speeds of the 512 with their 256`s. Its how well they (the 512s) overclock that should set them apart.

It's good to see that finally 05 is CPU limited - I doubt if volt mods are needed to get a good score now.

05 can gain 60% in sli, so if we take the single card score of 13.3k and times that by 1.6 its safe to assume thay 20k is possible.

Which is nice :)

With 7800GTX 512s:

Anyone else mildly unimpressed that that's with 3 cascades and only 700 points clear of the 256 GTXs?

It's still better than any other score out there (even LN2 and Dry Ice) so yeah I am impressed :p

Is it as high as we all expected? I think not, but then again I feel that we are now at the CPU limit and these cards are good to got to 20k easy.

Kinda stating the obvious bud.... its a brand new engineering sample on two of the only ultras out there under 3 cascades so course it will beat anything before it id expect any ultra to beat any other card out there... (sorry not meant to sound sarcastic)

To put in perspective:

Sampsa ran an engineering sample X1800XT using LN2 and Dry Ice - his score was impressive (well two weeks ago it was :D ) at 12300 points in 3dm05 - these acores obliterate the best ATI has to offer right now using the best cooling - as close as like for like you can get right now I guess?

Yeah but saying it's getting CPU limited and comparing a score with a 57 @ 3.6Ghz with one @ 3.8Ghz is a little unfair. No doubt both great scores of course. Just not a fair comparison.

It's about as fair as it gets and you can't tell me the the overclock difference is 1000 points worth of difference.

end of they say these clocks show the potential of these cards and untill some more popel liek mav get and clock and volt mod em we wont know their true potential

Could easily be - if not at least most of those points. 200mhz will help a huge deal in 05 - see what score you can get at 3.3Ghz if you like.

Okay ran test at 3.3 and 3.5 difference = 312pts :D :p

Fine

It's still a big gap and seeing as the scores are higher they will have been more CPU limited (but then again they're faster CPUs too) so it may have made anywhere from about 200-500 points difference which is a large part of those 1000 points. I'll put the rest down to drivers and the fact those cascades are colder than DI.

The new smileys are grand.

I say its good for 300 points judging by the fact my test proved it - that leqaves 700 points for drivers - who's to say that driver gap wont stay the same?

I think it's fair to say that the comparison is as fair as it can be - and when we apply some science we can see that the x1800xt is left wanting 700points.
