Hello guys :)

Just bought the above keyboard and mouse for my other PC and I'm having a few issues as far as connectivity is concerned. Basically is keeps dropping out and/or the mouse becomes really laggy (to the point of being unusable). Does anyone on this forum own or have experience with one of these? I seem to remeber big Phil having it awhile back - not sure if you still do?

There is a bluetooth adapter (like a pendrive) which goes in a usb slot however the PC is behind me so the signal has to go through whoever is sitting at the desk - I didn't think this should be a problem (bluetooth 2.0 EDR supposedly has a range of 30m!) however I tried the bluetooth adapter in a USB extension lead so as it is right next to the keyboard/mouse and it is working perfectly. Obviusly I don't want to have a USB extension lead going over the floor (otherwise I would just use a wired k/m!) however I'm wondering whether I could plug it into the USB hub on my Dell monitor which would look quite neat & tidy.

Does anyone know if the bluetooth adapter can be plugged into a hub or does it have to be directly to the computer internal usb port? I would try it out but I don't have a long enough USB cable going from the monitor to the PC - happy to buy one if it is guaranteed to work ok though.

Sorry for the long winded post.

Cheers,

Nick.

Hey Nick I've used the set a few times in builds. Have you tried plugging it directly into the USB 2.0 hub on your dell? I'm sure it will work okay. The only things that tend to require their own separate power supplies are things like printers and USB hubs themselves. ie heavier duty items. Peripherals like keyboards and mice should be fine!

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the reply. I will buy a longer USB cable to I can use the USB hub on my Dell monior and see if it works ok (no reason why it shouldn't). When you used the DiNovo did you have any connectivity problems? How far away did you used to have the keyboard/mouse from the bluetooth adapter?

I have mine on a nebula DigiTV usb tv card/hub, it didn't seem to like being plugged in behind the pc either. Range is fantastic, just not if you try and put it behind the pc case... wierd!

Hi Unreal - that's interesting. I'll let you know how I get on when I plug it into my monitor USB hub.

Just an FYI, the keyboard and mouse will disconnect when you power the monitor off.. then power back on when you turn it back on. Annoying for me, but I suppose useful and battery saving for others...

That's a good point which I hadn't thought of. I often turn the monitor off when I'm not using it - will there be any delays or prolems upon turning the monitor on and the mouse/keyboard re-connecting?

Hmm just did a quick test, not sure why but when I turn my monitor on I always get a space error, so this might be the cause of my problem.

However, it does switch the connection to the pc off when the monitor goes off. As in, the power light on the mouse remains but will not interact with windows. Re-connection seems a little hit and miss, might be just my set though. Even so, it takes a single click on the usb dongle to get it all running [and perhaps the buttons on kb+mouse sometimes...]

Hmm

Welll I bought a USB extension lead in the end and all is working well thus far. Upon posting this thread I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems a lot of people have problems when they put the USB bluetooth dongle behind their PC.

I hada similar problem with my DiNovo (although mine is the wireless notebook one not the bluetooth one). I found as soon as i move it away from the computer, or didnt plug it into the back of it and used the little desk thing it worked fine.

Does your Dinovo's left Ctrl key work? becuase i have to press down really hard on it for it to work.

Hi,

My left control key works fine :) In fact it is a very nice keyboard/mouse now I have got over the connection problems.

Anyone considering the new 'Edge' version?

It's looks like a bit of a luxury, but I may have to get one for my B-day :)

I've been using the DiNovo Laser combi since it was launched and have only ever had problems once (connection issue with the media pad) but it was down to batteries being low. I've had the USB dongle plugged in the back of my case too.:)

It looks just a little too fancy for my liking, not as subtle as the other ones. and it has a single height enter key, it's just wrong.

My current keyboard has that so I'm used to it anyway :p
