140mm case fan.

I'm looking for a decently quiet one that would go in the side panel to blow some cool air on the 7950, which is getting a sister in a couple of weeks, so things will start heating up a bit. At the moment I have an NZXT FN-140 which is set to the lowest setting from the fan controller, because otherwise it gets loud and produces a very annoying buzzing from the bearing. I don't care what colour the fan is, and if it needs to have LEDs, let them be blue. I wanted a very simple case, without lights, but MSI trolled me and put some really bright blue LEDs on the 990FXA. Cheers for any suggestions lads.

Your current fan is making the noise because of the fan controller.

Try running it straight from molex at 12v and see if the buzzing goes away (yes, I know the fan will be loud)

Then if you want to quieten it down, use voltage resistors, or fan speed reducers - not a fan controller.

A lot of 140mm fans make the buzzing noise with fan controllers, so recommendations probably won't be too helpful.

In future, try using something like: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-101-BX
Rather than a fan controller

It was buzzing on the molex, that's why I moved it on the controller, to turn the RPM down. It's not a fancy controller, just the one provided by Fractal with the Core 3000 case.

Well if the buzzing is a motor buzz then there nothing you could do about that... just maybe run it off 5V if it even works. But getting newer ones that you already know they are good would be your best move, like some Noctuas for example.

Corsair AF140, Silverstone AP141.

If you want direct air flow over the graphics cards, the Silverstone is a good choice IMO.

Solid advice on both counts,I can vouch for the Corsairs right now that they dont buzz on a controller.
The Silverstones are a very well designed fan with the ability to focus airflow effectively,in free air they dont blow everywhere.
For free air use I would probably go the APs....

I bought a box of 10 x 140mm spectre pro's for my latest build as they looked good on paper and matched my theme... they're shit, and 4 of the 10 I bought have developed noises in less than 3 months. Avoid.

I'm looking to replace mine as soon as I can find something better, the NZXT fans that came with my case performs better/quieter even on a controller...

If you go into the bios on the board there is probably an option to disable leds (there is on my msi 1156 board) under something like hw management or similar. I know what you mean about the msi leds though, they're blinding on this.

I kinda like them though, a cheap and cheerful night light. I ended up getting a Corsair AF140, does the job beautifully, and quietly. Also got a pack of SP120s as well, as the ones I had, from NZXT also, started to rattle within 2 weeks of each other. I'll remember to avoid this brand for fans in the future. Out of the 4 I own, 3 turned out to be crap. The fourth is probably from a premium batch. Fingers crossed.
