£1000-1500 Video Editing / Gaming Build

Hello folks, it's been a while.

It's that time of year where I've decided it's time for a fresh start with my PC, and I've been a little out of the loop for a while so my knowledge of current parts and price for performance is at an all-time low. Help me out with a few suggestions for a rig? I'll be gaming, streaming, video editing and rendering, often at the same time, so multi-tasking capability is pretty important.

My criteria are as follows. I'm not so picky on brands but I have been very pleased with Corsair products in the past. Hope you can help me out!

  • i7 is a necessity. Not sure if I should go Devil's Canyon or Haswell-E.
  • I'd like an SSD to boot from and run important programs off
  • nVidia GPU please, I'm a bit fed up of AMD
  • Aiming for 5760x1080@120fps or 1440p@120fps or 4k@30fps (Undecided tbh!)
  • Do not need peripherals
  • OS Included (8.1?)
  • Sound Card is ideal
  • Clean, large case, and as quite as possible
  • May overclock, AIO cooler perhaps?

Here's an example build I've had so far:

For rendering you want as many cores as you can get UNLESS you use another PC to record your screen and stream it.
Here is my attempt (i've only put a 970 in there so that you can make your mind up about what you want resolution wise:P ).

I think that you should stick with 32GB. 16GB are good only if you sit around and do nothing on your pc whle waiting for rendering to be done. A GTX titan black would be good to have, too

Confused, you put that you want to run at 120fps on a 60Hz monitor - why 120fps?

A CSM PSU seems a bit cheap - don't you want something fully modular? Like an RM (if we're going Corsair).

X99 is going to be expensive because you really want a fair bit of RAM.

I'd also look at a 4930k. They're still pretty decent and the RAM is quite a bit cheaper. You'd only need 16GB tops I'd say.

Ah, meant to remove that screen from my partpicker list as I had changed my mind about resolution.

This is pretty impressive - Nice to see a solid x99 build, I was hoping I could do one inside my price bracket. Would I want a 750W to allow headroom for GTX980 or 970 SLI in the future?

970SLI would run off a decent 750w PSU. Not too sure about 980 SLI.

That said, what program do you edit with? If you use Vegas you need an AMD card.

I use a few, predominantly Vegas and After Effects although I'm considering the switch to Premiere. I CPU render currently anyway, GPU will pretty much just be for my gaming unless I find another use for it.
