Intel Exec Spills the Beans on Thunderbolt 5 - 80 Gbps over USB Type-C

It looks like Intel's Thunderbolt standard's getting a 2x bandwidth boost!

It'll be even more impressive when DP takes the bidirectional lanes into a single uni directional connection and we get 160Gbps bandwidth for monitors. Now that would be superb!

Could do 4k at 330hz with 16bit color and 4:4:4, or more relevant 4k at 10bpc at 485hz.
And for those hardcore doom slayers playing at 1080p you could max the 1000fps limit and get 1000hz monitor with plenty of room to spare(max hz is 1150)


On the other hand I think it's more realistic to get external PCIe 4.0 drives than any of those monitor tech I listed above

Does make one wonder why you would even want HDMI at that point. Less versatile.

I wonder what the maximum cable length will be - 20cm?
