AMD is rumoured to be fabricating Ryzen CPUs with both Globalfoundries and Samsung

almost sure to be a difference although that may be intention in so much as AMD will have the higher end chips made at one foundry with the lower end one being made at the other.

This is what came to mind when I read this as well. Either that or to make enough chips to cope with the projected demand. It's quite a smart move if it's true and these are the reasons

maybe they think chip is very good performance wise so it will sell very good and are using all available resources to avoid shortage when sales start.

Doesn't really mean anything. It's all Samsung's tech anyways. GF is using there 14nm tools and design. I wouldn't expect a difference at all. The only that I see happening is lower "quality" chips from GF because they are going to be making most(virtually all) so lower yields until AMD demand more then they can go to Samsung for extra stock.

Or what could happen is GF makes every chip upto 8 cores and Samsung can produce the more complicated server chips like 16/32 cores

Yeah if they set their binning process up well then there should be no discernible difference between chips from glofo vs Samsung. Different manufacturing lines might have different yields for the different bins, but within the different bins the chips should be roughly equivalent.

Hopefully they don't get a short fall like they had with the 480

They will at some point. To make enough to cover all of the sales you may think you will get would lead to bankruptcy. Early chips will be stupid expensive and places like OCUK will gouge the crap out of people.

It only happens when something is truly worth having. The 480 was worth having, couldn't get them for ages. No company will ever make sure they have enough stock before the launch, they need to get the money rolling in ASAP.

If chips were plentiful we would have heard more about their lower C/T but right now they are focusing clearly on the high end. I think they have been binning for ages tbh. What they did with Vishera was remarkable. 15% just by doing a few tweaks here and there. Hopefully we will see the same with Ryzen. No reason not to, early 5820ks were a bit pants now they are far better.

plus there was that hidden message from that french magazine to the effect of Zen on air can reach 5GHz. Would really like to know if only one of the production lines is producing engineering sample chips

At least prices shouldn't rise due to shortage of chips. Good stuff. AMD really needs to avoid that problem if they want to compete with Intel. Any unforeseen price hike can put them at a disadvantage.
