MSI Boosts Ryzen 9000 CPUs with new "TDP to 105W" mode

Would be interesting to see if pumping an extra 40 watts through the CPU long term degrades it much faster than usual.

To be fair though, der8auer "unlocked" an 9700X and that ran at over 100W's, so thinking the 9700X is simply heavily power limited. Hence not sure it will actually cause any damage if it's power limited to begin with.

There is a reason why they are power limited.

As for degradation? it is very real. However, usually the owner does not have the product long enough to see the effects of it, as most enthusiasts are serial upgraders.

However, in recent memory a lot of Ryzen 3600 CPUs just up and died all of a sudden. It was quite common too. Several Youtubers have had it happen.

I would imagine it is because it was not good silicon and hence why it never ended up as a X or what not with a higher clock.
