Fan pinout

hi guys
this may seam like a very random topic, But im unsure..

I got given a GTX 580 from a friend, that was originally in a water loop..
So when giving the card to me, he bought a used air cooler for it off ebay..
The cooler itself is a perfect fit (the big ASUS twin fan direct CUII cooler)..

BUT.. the fan connector is different..

the fan connector is a 5pin, where as the header n the card is a 4 pin..
He cut away a small part of the header shroud, and connected it.. One fan works and spins fine, but the other doesnt rotate, perhaps due to that 1 extra wire not being connected..

So if someone could guide me on how to wire it correctly on a 4pin header, id very much apreciate it...

the fan connector has 5 pins.
with two fans, obviously there are a few pins that have two matching wires on one pin..

the wire colours are: and the amount of matching wires on on that pin

in order..
Green (1 wire)
black (2 wires)
yellow (2 wires)
red (1 wire)
blue (2 wires)..

could you please help me wire it to a 4pin header, so that both fans work correctly.

thanks

Here are the pin outs for your Asus 5-pin connector.

Pin-1 = RPM sensor (from fan #2) 1x Green wire
Pin-2 = Ground 2x Black wires
Pin-3 = +12V 2x Yellow wires
Pin-4 = RPM sense (from Fan #1) 1x Red wire
Pin-5 = PWM signal (from VGA header) 2x Blue wires

awesome, thankyou
is there anyway i can make it run on a 4pin header?
because the card has a 4 pin connector on it. So the green wire hangs off the side, and is not connected.. Could well be why Fan 2 doesnt spin at all..

cheers

Provided the wires aren't damaged if one fan doesn't spin then it's most likely dead. To test it I would wire just the black and yellow directly to an old PSU, they should both run at full speed. If only one spins again then check the black and yellow wires to the other fan are ok.

As JR23 has said test the fan first, the Green wire only reports the speed nothing more.

EDIT: As for 4 Pin headers here is the pin outs for that and a link to our Pin outs thread.
