AMD will produce reference RX 6800 series GPUs through Early 2021

Shame they couldn't produce some thermal pads for the backplate considering it is metal, Steve from Gamers Nexus found temps went down an extra few degrees.

Looks to be that it runs cooler than the 3000 series too so skipping the extra few degrees may be just their way of cost cutting perhaps?

I just happen to have some unused Fujipoly Sarcon pads I just might use whenever the Heatkiller V block lands. These cards are no different than the last bazillion AMD cards: stock cooling will suck and you will need water to see this things full potential. That story hasn't changed in over a decade, LOL! :D

It would be weird for them to produce just a couple thousand and then stop. Putting all that effort into the best reference board from AMD and then discontinuing it when there is a major shortage would be downright dumb.

Maybe they just made so many to grab a quick profit. Then after that they will switch to AIBP. Which could work well for us, as it could mean cheaper cards. I mean sure they won't be as nice quality wise but they could be cheaper. Unlike Nvidia who stuffed all of their board partners by setting a price they can not achieve.

Radeon cards generally tend to go down in price over time. Not up or stay the same.

TBH AMD make the chips. They really don't need to get their hands messy peeing around with cards and RMAs etc. Plus their partners get a fairer shout, which is good as it leads to loyalty. I've noted quite a few companies have ditched off Nvidia totally now and stick to AMD. Loyalty is still alive it seems.

Really? Who?...

XFX were one of the first. Sapphire were next. They used to make Nvidia cards.

XFX ditched off Nvidia after the 200 series. Basically Nvidia left AIBPs stranded for about 11 months in the switch over to Fermi. They stopped manufacturing 200 series chips to be made into cards (260, 280, 285 275 etc) and supplied nothing to them to sell. That is why XFX's 400 cards were only prototypes, as they refused to work with Nvidia again.

BFG basically went bankrupt because of this. They were not expecting high RMA on the 200 series but they were so hot and power hungry that they were terrible. So all they did for nearly a year was replace cards at their own expense, as Nvidia had stopped supplying them. I spoke to them shortly before they died, and the guy said that all they had done for 9 months was ship replacements at their expense with FedX (they were based in Wales). They too never made 400 series cards they went bankrupt instead.

That was what you used to get for being loyal. All of the multi brand companies were fine of course, as basically they were selling 5000 series Radeons for that 11 months. The others loyal to Nvidia got screwed. I am amazed EVGA survived also, but they made motherboards and other products too.

What is BFG? When Googling, only got a movie search of a giant lol...

They took their name from Doom. IE the BFG (or big f***ing gun).

At the time they were about the best of the best. They did custom cards, factory overclocked cards etc and had the best warranty (10 years IIRC). They weren't cheap, but warranty wise you got what you paid for.

However, it was that warranty that bit them on the bum when Nvidia had a year off.

They were bought out by Galaxy, and became KFA2. If you didn't know what that means it's another very old term (or meme as they call them these days) which basically means "Kick f***ing ass" squared.

I've never heard of them before... Although makes sense regarding Galaxy and KFA2, which I have heard of though.

First google hit for me.. Big Format Gaming

Not for me... Actually, it's nothing regarding gaming for me when I search that.
