It looks like Nvidia are skipping the 800 series entirely and are going straight to the 900. High-End Maxwell is coming!

good to see Nvidia stepping up to 4gb as standard. 3gb is enough (2gb is not, sorry) but considering how the new gen of games are turning out...

More like mid range Maxwell :p From all the info we have so far the 980 is still under a 780Ti performance wise making them Maxwell midrange rebrands of the 770 and 780.
My guess is highend Maxwell wont be till end of this year/early next year, I reckon the 980 Ti will be the next highend performance card from Nvidia.

I'm guessing this'll be a "entry High-end" card if that makes sense, with larger, more powerful cards to follow.

My ageing GTX680, like the "newer" 770, has just 1536 cuda cores. So, if the 970 has more and they're more capable, then it might be a nice card. NOT an upgrade for me, but if the price is right a good buy for people with older hardware.

Personally, I'd like to wait for the 980Ti, if such a card is ever produced.

Do we think the 970 will be a "tweaked" 780 in effect, with the 980 bumping the performance up a notch and maybe a 980Ti being the "full fat" card released later?

I got my 680's moments (it feels like, but a couple of months actually) before the 780's launched, purely due to a slight niggle with one of my old 570's. Don't want to jump in too soo this time and i) not get the performance bump I'd expect and ii) missing the "proper" version of the card that follows.

Scoob.

Only quoted that part,but....

Are you sure on this, after looking at several leaks so far,it seems to be as good if not a smidge better, whilst using less power than what I need to have toast in the morning........

Only 1664 cuda cores? Thats barely more than a 770.

Will you stop being a complete fail.
You do know that Maxwell cores are different than Kepler right?9you DO know what a 750ti can do right?)

No shit its different. Your the one who failed here. Don't always believe the marketing numbers. Just because you get 135% performance per core doesn't mean you get 135% actual improvement. If that was the case you would see a 750ti running 4k at way over 60fps if each core was performing 135% better than previously.Stop nitpicking and looking for a conflict.

Well from what I have seen it scores ever so slightly faster in synthetic benchmarks, in terms of actual gaming performance I don't think we are going to see any improvement.

As for lower power consumption, it isn't really anything to be excited about. Who cares about power consumption when it comes to highend cards? :) They might be cooler and quieter, but that isn't really anything to get excited about if they don't offer a decent performance increase. My 290 is cool and quiet, having a cooler and quieter card wouldn't really make any difference to me seen as my card is already cool and quiet.

Also, just saw some new pics of the Galaxy 970 showing it has a 6+8 pin which means they aren't going to be using much less power than current cards.
