Zen 4 will be more impressive than Zen 3 - Leaker Claims

Zen 4 is an easy claim to beat Intel's latest releases given that it will be competing against Intel's Alder Lake - AMD is pretty much guaranteed to have at least 16 cores in the top end desktop SKU while Intel is planning on their hybrid design in Alder Lake.

Zen 5, on the other hand will possibly be competing against Intel's offerings on Intel's 5nm-comparable 7nm process. This gives Intel a leg up in the process competition so Zen 5 won't be a complete wiping of the table.

These are great times for consumers given that there is finally competition in the CPU market. We have seen more advancements in performance over the past few years than we have seen in the decade before. Hopefully both Intel and AMD can keep up and we don't fall back into the doldrums that we saw during AMD's Bulldozer era.

Agree. However we now see how corporation pricing affects AMD when they have the upper hand. Gone are the days of AMD offering the price v performance value we used to see. They now turn towards Intel level pricing. So while competition is great. I can guarantee you neither side will be offering us good deals. And both will try to justify their reasoning for raising the costs yet again.

It is a sellers market and will be for the next several years. Fabs don't grow on trees.

I've no problem with AMD making bank. They KNOW the hardway they can fail HARD - I'd want good insulation from going tits-up again if I were them. They aren't Intel or Nvidia in either size or diversification.

Going fabless really has really smacked AMD about; another thing I would do if I were them is reverse that, and that would take even more money. The Radeon side got competetive again and Ngreedier stopped the £Stupid MSRP. As the joke goes "When we don't have a product, that will be our price too!"

AMD, Intel, Nvidia aren't the public sector either: their prices have to reflect the REAL inflation rate; not the fake figures bandied about by governments. Much as I'd like a free lunch now, I'd only starve in the future.

I can't see AMD getting a fab for a while, the cost is huge but can see them cutting longer term deals with tsmc, AMD's prices are no worse than Intel and people were more than happy to pay out for Intel, tables have turned somewhat and AMD is doing well but they had the budget mindset for so long that it's taking it's time to change in peoples minds.

Personally i have no issue with the prices sure we'd all like cheaper, but as deadtroopers said the future of AMD is as important as the past, they need to turn a profit for RND and investment into new assets to remain stable.

I think the CPU prices are reasonable enough. I just wish there were lower clocked non-X variants that were slightly cheaper.

Agreed. CPU prices are alright, Motherboard prices are starting to creep a bit, but GPU? We all know that's a s***show right now and will be for some time yet. Welp, I bought Vega, I must live with that haha

As much as I want AM5 my 1700 is doing well still, might be a case of getting 5k series 2nd hand once people upgrade on mass, don't feel i need to be at the bleeding edge :)

I think ddr5 will be a pretty big cost like ddr4 was at the start it's mainly this that puts me off tbh, my 1700 is still doing well really sure my gpu scores are not as high as many but my gaming is solid can happily play everything and it's normally this that would make me upgrade.

The GPU prices are nuts i can agree with that easy even at msrp they are still not cheap but tbh they will now always go for what they feel people will pay, so i expect that the next gen as big a leap as it will be expect the prices to leap as well.

Upgrading cpu/mobo/ram is a far bigger task for me than gpu, cause reinstalling windows on my PC is a nightmare i hate having to do this it's a lot of work, so that and the expected ddr5 prices are going to mean that side of things is a long way off until i really feel the need to do it.

I think it'd be nice if there was more midrange prices on all parts stuff that will get the job done cause really it's the midrange prices atm that have taken the biggest hit, even my older parts are still worth what i paid, one of my old gpu's sold for more or less the same value it was at eol and really there needs to be parts that are similarly priced.

I think my system as it is now is going to need to last longer than intended and GPU wise i'll need it to live as long as possible, i was very lucky to have it and can't see me being able to justify upgrading for several generations, my general rule is 2x performance but i think i'll need to wait until 3x given that it's hard to spend so much and feel good about it.
