XP build problems

I have just brought from Tekheads the following parts

Abit IP35-e systemboard

Intel E6750

2Gb Corsair twinx PC6400

the existing parts are

Samsung 200Gb hdu

Leadtex PX7950GT 256mb

NEC DVD -+RW

Enermax 465w PSU

Antec P182 case

Each time I try and do a fresh install on the PC I get errors in XP system event logs.

The first are SidebySide which I cured by downloading and installing VisualC++ 2005 Redistrubtion.

The second error I can find nothing about, it is unable to locate the Mtxlic file.

The third error, after all the latest chipset drivers are installed it fails intermittently to pickup the USB hubs and the onboard sound card.

I am using a retail version of XP then applying SP2, I have tried slipstreaming the install too but each time the event log reports problems and the PC is unstable.

Any ideas?

Couple of things.

Can u rely on the Enermax being solid ? .. and something I forgot about, have u plugged the 8pin EPS 12V in ? (does the Enermax have 1, I dunno)

If that`s not a concern, I`m down to basics. Running dos tests, memtest to be sure the gear I got is working 100%.

Just installing windows should be a breeze, and if it aint theres another issue.

I know theres built in usb drivers in xpsp2, I wonder if u`ve installed sp1, then the chipset, then the sp2 and the drivers are fighting ?? If u could get a slipstream sorted out, perhaps using another pc to organize it, it may work better.

Install OS, chipset/mobo onboard stuff, then gfxcard etc, then any utils. <= that should go smooth. Otherwize, something is acting up.

On a sidenote, nice grab of hardware there.

Sorry for the delay, I have just got back from Brands Hatch.

The PSU is fine, I have used it for a couple of years with my previous board Asus A8n-e

2Gb ram

AMD 3800 x2 OC's to 2.5Ghz

The PC is standard at the moment, not overclocked in any way. The retail version of XP that I have is without any service packs, the problem seems to occur when SP2 is installed, along with the latest updates.

The memory has been tested and appears OK

It's looking like the HDU is to blame along with the Logitech Wingman 5.01 driver. Changing the HDU has enabled XP to install without errors, installing the Logitech driver then gives the sidebyside error. Installing the Visual C++ patch then solves that.

Looks like I was too quick in saying the PC is now working. I'm getting random reboots and crashes, doing another extended memory check has shown up 120+ errors, but none in the first hour or so.

I have an RMA number and the memory will be going back tomorrow.

Some memory will do that, I think it`s down to it getting hotter as it works.

If so, it sounds like it works ok at 1 temp, so could u cool ur mem any better ?

The case and motherboard temps are in the 20 - 30c range according to the BIOS with a ambient temp of about 22c. The memory heatsinks are cool to the touch, even after 23 hrs of testing.
