Hi guys

just bought a XFX radeon HD4850... and initially signs looked good... however when i ran FEAR3 the game crashed to a grey screen with red/pink vertical lines .... i couldnt "ctrl-alt-del" so i had to manually reboot the pc

strangely it ran 3dmark03 without any problems and even managed a record score of over 40,000.... and this is what annoys me so much.... its the best card i have had for a long time and i cant use it for what it was designed for (gaming )

power supply i am using is a "OCZ stealthstream 500w psu " which is more than ample and also recommended by AMD and XFX .... so no problems there

heres the grey screen :

ive been looking into this problem over the last 48hrs and i have a feeling my soundblaster x-fi soundcard may have something to do with the problem..... lets remember 3dmark03 does not use any sound during the benchmarks and may be why its not affected... so tommorow i shall remove the soundcard and run the affected games using onboard sound..... and finally if that fails i shall reinstall windows hoping that may work ( note : during this installation of windows 7 ultimate 64bit i have installed 5 cards with 3 being ati and 2 from nvidia.... so it may be my os is just that clogged up a reinstallation of windows may be the cure....

from all accounts this issue was supposed to be patched with one of the recent driver releases... however im using 11.6 but it still occurs....

has anyone any idea how this problem can be resolved

many thanks guys

the x-fi drivers for win7 64 do not exist

creative say it works (lies)... but is renowned for being buggy

it used to be a PITA for me - so i reverted to using onboard sound

try taking the card out and playing the game again

okay... no sound while testing your theory out, but atleast it will narrow down the probelms
