The XFX Black cards have a fearsome reputation as some frame-munching behemoths. We put the R9 390X through its paces.

XFX R9 390X Black Edition Review

Hate to say it but yawn. Another over priced 8gb 290x.

AMD need to stop peeing around with this crap and get Fury out there and for sale. Every day they slip is another day for Nvidia to drop prices again and secure another sale.

I gotta admit, I am growing a little impatient.

When you get past the HSBC logo all over the front, god is this a pretty card. Not quite as pretty as the previous DD

but still it's a looker. Performance is great too, predictably sitting just above the 290X.

Can't wait to get home and test this card out. Been on vacation and the card came as I was leaving. It's not the black edition but it's still worth getting. Hopefully it's as good as you show!

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the "Black Edition" is and the non one?... Keep seeing them all over, but don't get the difference. Is it the color?

Core clocks. Pretty sure it's 1050 for normal cards and the Black edition is 1090

And that's it?... a 40MHz higher core clock?...

I thought it would be something more... kinda like have some exclusive backplate for a change lol, atleast.

Excellent review not sure of the hate from other members

I had this card for over a month now and I am quite happy with it. Versus the GTX 980, it's a $100 or $150 cheaper depending on the retailer, it performs just as well and it certain games it beats the GTX 980, the card stays under 72C for me, and it comes with 8GB that's 8GB!!! of vram!!! Now two complaints I hear or read from reviewers or from Nvidia's fanboys are 8GB is useless and about the high power draw. First extra vram is never useless. It effects the texture quality, the level of anti-aliasing, the amount of details that can be displayed, and it certainly helps for 2K and 4K gaming. This card is powerful enough to run those settings at very high to max although you still need a couple of cards to run 4K at 60FPS but that can be said to Nvidia's card too. It was not that long ago when 1GB was the norm and look how obsolete that came to be. Finally the complaints about the power draw. If it wasn't for Maxwell, this wouldn't be a discussion. No GPU before that was power friendly. Maxwell allow gamers to stick to their 500 watt PSU because to many upgrading their PSU is not a priority. You're only talking about the most overlooked and most crucial part of the PC. Besides what the heck are some of my PC gamers doing with a 500 watt PSU a high quality 850 watt PSU should be the minimum. Trust me, it comes in very handy. So Maxwell I'm saving about 100 watts. How much difference is that costing on the electric bill? A couple of cents maybe a few dollars? Now I'm not an AMD fanboy nor Nvidia I simply chose the product based on my budget and this card fit that price per performance category for me. I know that I can get a R9 290x but with the revisions that AMD has made to the 390 series it's just a smarter buy. Also want to mention that this card carries a lifetime warranty but only if bought through Best Buy. Overall excellent card.

 say what? The poor thing is just there gathering dust and you dare say ithe poor thing wasn't abandoned?? ^_^

I promise she's not collecting dust. I have it all cleaned and packaged better than a nuclear warhead waiting for a label so I can drop it off at the post office:p

Just make sure the send to address is mine :D

I've got a good home for it ;) that is of course unless it's home goes to a new owner.
