Hi guys,

Didnt really want my first post to be about something dieing but thats life I spose.

So today I loaded up dawn of war 2 and at the menu the screen started going black for a couple of seconds then back to the menu. I also got a screen entirely covered by a random grid of coloured squares, like a whole screen's worth of artefacts or something.

Managed to close the game eventually and it settled down, checked afterburner and the graphics card ( XFX 9800 gtx) was at 56 C so it doesnt look like it was overheating. My whole machine is pretty old so im not 100% that its the graphics card, could be psu ? (Tagan force II 800 W)

Anyone got any ideas?, I was hoping I could get the machine to limp through to the release of the 7xxx/6xx and then do an IB build.

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9450

mobo: Asus Striker 2 extreme

Ram: 2x2 gb corsair XMS 1600 MHz

Thanks

Your psu can easily handle your system setup so i don't think that is the issue

did you try and reinstalling the gpu drivers? if that doesn't work then its probably time to get a new gpu

It has handled it fine until now, I just wondered if a problem had developed with the psu that could cause these symptoms to manifest?

Yeah reinstalled the drivers and nothing changed, I think it may be new gpu time yes

Thanks for the reply.

There is a neat Oven trick I've seen people using that seems to bring back cards from the dead. I have never tried it myself, but it's worth a try. I've seen it work for other people on other forums.

Watch the video and read the description just in case you miss something in the video:

Well ive tried a few more things to no avail, will shove a m8s card in and see what happens to be sure. After that its cooking time, at least I will get a keyring out of it should it not work

Well cooking seems to have neither made things better or worse, the more I play around with the card the more it all points to knackered Vram and things seem to be slowly getting worse. Now i just need to decide wether to get a cheap stop gap card and wait for the next gen or just get a 570 and stick with that or a while.

Nvidia's 600 series are supposedly coming out next summer, so they are a long time away. I would wait for the AMD 7000 series and see how they perform before making a decision
