Ok so everytime i boot up my pc I have to press F1 to continue because I get some floppy disk fail (80).

I have a 780i motherboard and some people have said just disable the floppy disk, but I cant its unavailable to click on I cannot do anything? so how do I disable it.

Also I have a little error code on the lcd on the motherboard reading the code FF could this be because of that floppy disk fail ? Other then that the pc is running smooth.

If anyone could help me fix that floppy issue and the FF code would be awesome thanks!

R.e. the FF code - are you able to make it into windows?

FF means something like 'fully functional' so it is perfectly natural for the mobo to report that code. If however you are getting FF and the pc isn't posting then it's probably the bios. Try:

1. Pressing down the bios chip to force a loose connection

2. Pulling out the battery for a minute and resetting the cmos.

3. It could be related to the floppy - you should be able to disable this in the bios if you are getting that far?

yeah I was pretty sure FF was a no brainer for working good I'm trying to access my main memory on the 780i (I had a 790i EVGA board not long ago) but coming up blank (hate being sick) but yeah FF is normal for alot of boards for working good.

You need to disable the Floppy A drive in the BIOS. Should be under Standard CMOS setup, the first category in the BIOS anyway. Windows has nothing to do with disabling it.

which brand 780i??? 780i is the chipset if you know the exact model that would be helpful.

Its an XFX 780i. With the pheonix award bios.

But ye everything is fine, working properly except i have to press f1 every time i boot or reboot my pc due to the floppy error and i dont even have a floppy connected. Also ive tried disabling it in the bios but i cant change the setting it wont allow me to.

ok tried to googlr the bios for screenies but not much help. Basically i think in your boot order you have fdd set in there. This will cause the afore mentioned issue. Simply go into the boot order and make fdd the last choice.

^ as above I'm guessing FDD is given a greater priority in the boot order than your boot drive.

I had a similar issue when I unplugged my drives from sata but left a usb drive plugged in, the mobo set the usb to be the default boot while it was not even powered on.

You should be able to completely remove it from the boot order or atleast put your boot drive first.

yep it was first in boot order even though i didnt have a floppy ever? lol thats so odd. But I managed to fix it by reflashing the bios as it did not have a option to let me move it from the boot menu which is also odd.

Na I couldnt, did not want to work was like stuck in place. Something was bugged. After reflashing bios though it works.

yeah flashing the bios set it back to normal operations where the cd or hdd is first in line for boot.
