XBox 360 wifi options

Hey guyz, youngest nephew has a 360, and is looking at wifi options.

I can't believe u need to pay £50-£60 for a £10 wifi usb device.

So are there other options, perhaps a 3rd party (pfft yeah right) or maybe a AP with an ethernet port that will talk to the existing sky AP.

Thinking some kind of AP extender may be a cheaper alt.

(my sister would not accept a 50 foot cat5e)

Yeah you could grab a wireless extender and plug the 360 into it, but that would probably cost as much as the MS one.

I have the MS one and it works fine. They're about £45ish now, not too dear really (for an MS peripheral)

just google for wireless gaming adapter, there's loads!

Or you could use powerline adapters. You can a get pair of them for £50 easy (the 200meg ones)

Yeah I've seen a whole bunch of these termed as gaming adaptors now.

Mostly US sales for around $44. A review or 2 merely say u plug them in and ethernet to the xbox.

They're just like going ap to ap then ethernet - that's it.

I'll see if there's any junk laying around in work b4 I buy anything. Anything to not have to shell £50 to m$ for no reason other than they make u.

lol, they dont "make you". Your free to use what ever one you want.

Lemme know which less than £50 options there are for XBox users ?

A £10 (which is all it costs really) version of the same thing perhaps ?

not following you, whats wrong with the gaming adapters that a quick google provides?

Ah ic. m$ come up with a price they think they can get away with charging, £60 mrrp. Shops can scrape it to £50, £40 ish in some cases with postage on top.

The majority of linksys/belkin gaming adaptors have mysteriously gone eol, although belkin can be found in a few mysterious shops that can supply whilst it's not available for ~£23 plus postage, this includes some ebay stores.

One option is being sold by Ebuyer from some1 called Zoom ? or something, for £32. Ofc here ur using an AP with a power adaptor.

So how is it that a £10 usb wifi adaptor, that cannot be used as no driver can be used on the xbox, gets booted up to a £60 mrrp (£50 in reality) - almost certainly because all AP options are around £40, but with power adaptor use - not making people buy it ?

The unit costs £10 if there is competition. Being as the competition, if u have the know-how of the units and the balls to use them, are around £40. Bearing in mind ofc these AP units mrrp was £75 b4 they went eol.

U can get new wireless N expensive units.

They make it so a standard pnp wireless adaptor can-not be used (standard drivers are perfectly acceptable - vista has them) - ala what u can use on a laptop - and produce their own unit for a large profit.

Anyone outside of an enthusiast going to even know of a AP option ?

How are they going to support 10.2 billion different USB wifi sticks? They would have to wright drivers for each of them. How would customers know whats supported? The extra cost it for supporting all these?

So i just dont that would be a feasible option.

£50 is expensive for what it is, but hey there a business. Apple do just the same as well as sony and many other companies.

I can plug a random usb thing into this apple and it'll use a standard atheros driver, or realtek 8167. Not specific for the wifi manufacturer, but it'll work with no issue.

U can use a standard wifi device driver, similar to what u find in Vista. Anything wireless G upwards would/should work, with some slightly older wireless b tech and a few g being sketchy.

It aint business, it's extortion.

Agreed with the sony, they do it too.
