X58 system maybe bad CPU

I've been helping a friend troubleshoot a system for the past week and I would like to run this by the community since I'm not getting consistent behavior from the system besides random reboots. No bios error beeps or error leds come on. System will just reboot randomly for no apparent reason. I've reseated the RAM, tried a different graphics card, and the only thing I haven't tried yet is reseating the CPU. I went into the bios and turned off quick boot and it still passes POST. Considering all this, I don't think hardware failure is the problem but possibly something overheating. The system is air cooled. Any ideas? The config is below.

Asus P6X58E Pro
Intel Core i7 920 (not overclocked)
Mushkin DDR3 1333 6 GB RAM
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 285
1TB Hitachi HDD
OCZ 850W ZX PSU

had a fault just like this myself in the past, ended up swapping all sorts of bits out trying to locate the fault. annoying as hell as it was a system i put together for a family member and i could test it for hours and no fault, send it back and within a day or so they were on the phone complaining

For me it turned out to be the motherboard. i could simulate the fault by flexing the board near the cpu. my guess was a dry joint or something along those lines.
