Wolfenstein is back !! woohoooooo !!

Duke is absolutely everything COD and BF3 isn't.

That's why I love it, and that's why it got slagged off when it was released because it wasn't some clone of a crappy clone of the most popular game of the moment. It's from a forgotten era.

Bygone, not forgotten. *respectful nod*

Pah I don't keep count of posts

That's so 2001

I found the review and I've submitted it. I'm pretty sure I edited out all of the swear words but let's face it it's not exacly a game for kids when you punch the enemy female in the vagina

This game contains the falcon punch?!?!?! This is going on my Steam wish list ASAP!!

I remember the first Wolfenstein , I think it was for windows 3.1 or something , I thought it was pretty cool at the time. I also liked the original Duke Nukem , although the graphics weren't all that great for either of the games, Duke was hilarious .
I really wanted the latest on but like most read all the bad reviews and didn't buy.
But after reading what AlienALX said about it , I think I'll see if I can find it.
I'm looking forward to see what the new wolfenstein is like

I've posted my review but I think it needs approving. I can see it any way.. Keep an eye on the Member reviews section :)

I was just playing around. :) I'm in my 40's, so I have fond memories of DOS, Wolfenstein, etc. I still remember being glued to my screen, hair on the back of my neck standing up, and hearing Hitler-in-a-diving-suit saying GUTTENTAG before destroying me in seconds!

Hitler-in-a-diving-suit saying GUTTENTAG before destroying me in seconds!

That sounds totally hilarious :rollinglaugh:

I still remember the crazy scientist introducing a mid-game boss in RTCW:
Das Ubersoldat!

When it actually would be
Der Übersoldat!

I know that's not all that funny for people whose mother tongue is not German, but for me
that just sounds so hilarious, especially within the context of him being German and the
boss being supposed to be... boss-like. First time I heard it I laughed so hard I nearly
fell out of my chair and couldn't concentrate so I got insta-killed

Even though I was too young to really get into DOS (dad already had Win 3.1 by the time
I saw my first computer), since switching to Linux (and a bit of FreeBSD) I have come to
love the CLI (at least for certain things, there are of course tasks for which a GUI is
more suited).

It's just so... awesome!

EDIT:

"GUTTENTAG" (it's actually "Guten Tag", but Hitler screaming "GUTTENTAG" sounds
a lot more fun so I'll stick with that  ).

DOS was crazy tbh.

It was almost like Windows but you had to create it all without being able to see it. First thing was to install DOS of course, then install Himem.sys then your CD drivers (which I used to code myself)

Then you had nothing but a command prompt so to create your folders you used the MD command (make directory) and so on. del for deleting a folder or deltree for deleting a file tree.

It's obviously been many many years since I had to use DOS to install games but even the setup was completely manual and you had to set the IRQ and DMA parameters all manually yourself.

One thing NT did solve for me was IRQ conflicts. God, they were rife in 95 but 2k allowed virtual IRQs for hardware to sit on so that you had more than enough to prevent conflicts.

I recently got a DOS game to run in a DOS emulator under Linux and had to mess around
with it a bit before getting it to work (not much though :)). It was actually pretty straightforward,
quite similar in concept to the Linux prompt (same commands with regards to functionality,
but different names). Hardware, drivers and stuff is of course a different story
