WMP in Vista not showing

Vista been up and running on the pc in question for about 2 days full.

U select a file to play, music or movie, and it plays but wmp doesn`t show itself. (so u see no movie, but u can hear it like the music)

Click on the wmp quick launch thing, and it will show itself - and show what it was u selected to play. Close it and it hides away, still playing the media!

It`s not like it`s starting minimized, cos u can minimize it after using quick launch and re-maximize etc.

If a codec is used, u stop the media, close wmp and the codec refs are still in the tray.

Any ideas ? This is Ultimate with mediacenter and codecs installed for the 4 popular movie types.

Worked fine til about the 2nd day.

probably a MS feature ..

Try deleting the application data folder for WMP

failing that Control panel > Programs > add remove components > remove WMP then reinstall

Yeah the package as a whole I`m thinking. I went by the route of component removal, but it wasn`t on the list. Not in the program control thing either. Went to re-install without removing it and it said the version I have is too new. Could see if it`d force in, dunno.

Weird thing is I run the wmpcfg.exe (which I think is the configuration part of it) and it shows in processes, but doesn`t appear.

Not a good start to using Vista again, feels awful.

Just googled u cant actually remove it *sign -- stoopid fucin M$*

Try going 2 safe mode loading WMP and removing all add/plug ins from WMP

oh and delete the userz/applicationdata/local + roaming/ media player folders

*show hidden folders*

.. and it`s got some kind of wmp-network thing and other involved services.

Pretty spooky when u boot a 2nd pc and it exclaims - "Windows media player is available on another pc" - or similar.

Some1 would have uninstalled it at some point.

I`ve got a drive image, so I could try putting that back on and see if it falls down again.

Fudge sake, I`ve only had it on for a few days.

Just got in and ran wmp after restarting the pc and it ran fine.

Difference I notice is I haven`t run F@H smp yet.

Could be something conflicting there.
