Whilst passing hours on YouTube the other day, I came across this and thought that I'd share it with you guys as it has done wonders for me (see before and after pics)
With that in mind I then thought I'd go here and here to test my connection. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to test the connection before I modded the router but it was around the 12 k mark, same upload more or less. I think the main thing to be noted here is not just the connection speed but also the fact that the test itself only took about 2 seconds.
Now, on to the more important part, the rant. Back in the day when broadband was just coming in to the mainstream, I had originally signed up with a small company called NTL and together with my phone and digital tv package, was on a 512 Kbs connection. Every six months or so, I'd get a call or letter from NTL to tell me that due to their ever growing success, my internet speed was going to double at no extra cost - result ! So this happened pretty much on par for a few more years and with the money that they were making (top flight football sponsership deals) I started to recieve even more appealling calls along the lines of; 'due to our ongoing successs, we would like to offer you more discounts on your current package or we can put the extra cash in to your internet'. This was clearly becoming a good company.
Then (rant), the bad news came, NTL were being bought over by Virgin Media. At first I had no reason to doubt Virgin as I'd never used their train service but then small discrepancies started to appear such as halted or no internet, cut out connections or digital tv not working. Secondly, I also understand that with these quoted speeds of 'up to 20 MB' basically means, 20 is the fastest you'll get if you stay next door to the exchange but it will most likely be around 12. Now I know that these are all problems that can and will happen with any company but it feels like it's happening too much with Virgin and I don't feel like they really care.
So now I think that it's time to shop around, I realize of course that your pretty limited in choice depending on your area but was wondering if anyone could vouch for BT or O2 wireless, doesn't have to be a package deal this time.
p.s When I originally went to write this between 1 and 2 am last night I couldn't connect to OC3D !!!
EDIT working on pics, geting 'not valid image' message.
