Wireless signal boost

I have a dlink wireless router at the moment and wanted to what would be the best way for me to boost my signal downstairs. Is it as simple as getting a second wireless router and then bridging the connection?

tbh i've never seen any signal boosters, but i dnt beleive you can streignthen the signal, you might be able to make it cover a larget radius, but not streignthen it i dont think....

There are three ways, you could get a wireless access point, with point to multipoint mode, which acts as a booster. You could also get a wireless signal booster, which does the same thing as a wap in pount to multipoint mode.

Most of the big networking companies (D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, etc) all have plug-n-play signal boosters for sale that work flawlessly on their respective networks. I have a Linksys booster on my 2nd floor to help get access to laptops and such down in the basement, works like a dream! I get full speed access anywhere inside the house and about 100 feet outside the house in all directions :D

Yeh as kempez says, think along the lines of a couple of fields, a few houses, some cows and a church :).

Most routers have screw-on arials. Simply pick a BIG one. I got mine from here : http://www.wifi-antenna.co.uk/ - £13 for a 9db antenna, and can get my wireless halfway up the street :)

Be careful about the connection though - it's easy to pick the wrong one.

Another good idea is to get one of the antenna bases, which allows you more flexibility in placing the antenna in the best place for the reception.

Yep, not all of them do. Some do, but not all. As for picking a big one, you want big in terms of dBi, not physical size. Its a good idea to check if yours can before you go and buy an antenna.

u could use a more powerful antenna that the [usually] standard 3 db one that can with your router (every 2-3 db gain is a doubling of range);

a firmware upgrade (my netgear got an extra range with its latest firmware);

increase the altitude of the antenna (height);

get a booster in ( a 2.4 ghz signal booster will cost tho);

a driectional antennal device (like a cantenna/pringles can) wil also increase range but at the expense of coverage area (from 360 degree range to like 40-30);

or get a majassive antenna like the guy that stole starbuckes wifi used

why dont you just get a mimo router?

the belkin ones are about £80 (cheaper in some places)

a decent antenna is gonna cost u on the low end of £60-80

plus mimo router will get u better range neways.

worst case scenario, use the mimo as an access point.
