Windows Vista Hotfix to reduce RAM Usage

Hey guys, there is a new hotfix for Vista to reduce RAM usage.

I tried installing it on my Vista, but it said it doesn't apply to me. I guess since I'm running Vista SP1 it already has it included.

I`ll no doubt give it a shot at some point, but to be fair the poll only shows 7 people using Vista here on a regular basis atm. And I think u`r one of them.

Think this is the fix i posted in another thread a day or two ago along with a reliability one. So far so good for me.

My vista is using 590mb with IE7, Outlook 07, live messenger, ghost cast server, nod32, nokia suite, logmein and vnc.

Thats using less memory than when i had XP on.

But as mentioned on Anand, at the moment, to get the hotfixes directly from Microsoft, you need to contact them and request them

No, there are two reliability packs and this one.

aha, i think im gonna wait to see what happens with others before i install it as my performance is top notch for what i do.

Post people I think reported a 200mb decrease in RAM Usage, and I think my SP1 RAM Usage is less than when I had plan old Ultimate with only those reliability packs. Atleast MS is fixing this now

Your current usage is only 500? I used to hit around 800 in Vista just with a couple of apps up (firefox,AIM,Winamp,Steam). Do you have Aero?

i do have aero. its since i put that reliabilty and performance pack on. Current ram usage is now 540mb. So the lastest patch didnt make much difference for me, but may well make the world of diff to someone else.

Its why i think highly of vista because my experiance has been brilliant with it. In a nice way i dont care what anyone elses experiance has been like as it doesnt effect me. (end harsh comment)

I don't notice the difference on normal desktop usage. I think it's when your ram will be used alot. For instance, earlier when playing BF2, RAM usage was ~84-86% now it's ~ high 60s or low 70s.
