Hey guys I am having a weird issue with windows 7 and my mic that started about a week ago.

When i go to play counter strike source when I launch into a server my mic in windows 7 gets muted. The level is brought down to 0 and thus my mic wont work. If I alt tab out of game and bring it back up it works fine but when I rejoin a server or the map changes my mic goes back to 0. It is really annoying so does anyone know of a fix or a possible cause.

I am running 64 bit windows 7 ultimate in case it matters.

I am currently running a virus scan just in case.

  1. Right-click the volume control and select Recording devices from the context menu.
  2. Select the Communications tab.
  3. Change the radio button setting to Do nothing.

Stolen entirely from another site, it's something to do with microphone auto levelling.

Could be something else entirely mind you, I've had a problem where my speakers would do the same thing but not a mic.

When I click on the Communications tab I have no radio button.

I have a When windows detects communications activity:

Mute all others

reduce volume by 80%

reduce volume by 50%

Do nothing

I have do nothing ticked.

Edit: oh I forgot to add I am using a creative sound blaster fatality sound card.
