Windows 1511 Update..

Here we are again after another Windows update, and this one is a mixed bag the recent 1511 build for Windows 10 has received mixed reviews mainly due to the updates rather cheeky ability to uninstall programs it, lets face it had no right doing so. For example I've heard reports of CPU-Z, GPU-Z Fraps, even Open Office being removed by the recent update.

This is a disturbing thought for me, just how much control do we have over our systems?

I'm not someone who likes to be dictated to nor do I enjoy letting someone stipulate which programs I have on my system, so is this a step too far for Microsoft have any of you guys experienced anything "odd" after the recent update for Win 10? Let us know in the thread.

Additional:
Should any of you guys happen to be using one of the N or KN versions of Windows and are struggling to get your games or media programs to work, it's due again to the recent 1511 update which has killed the Windows Feature Media Pack needed to run these programs, in good old Microsoft fashion they have not publicised the new Feature Pack correctly follow this link to get the latest Media Pack update.

The last update a couple of weeks ago made me remove CPU-Z (Said it's not compatible) but I downloaded it again and it works just fine.
Also seems that every time there's an update Edge stops playing youtube videos properly for a few days.

My headphones/mic worked fine for a bit. Now they've randomly stopped being detected as a comms device it thinks they're speakers. Yay. This was Saturday though so I'll probably get home tonight and they work again.

Not loving the fact that they seem to break more things than they fix. I've had GPU and Sound issues from day one. It seems to like they don't care what driver you have and whether it's from the manufacturer or not they just uninstall in the background halfway through a game.

Overall still happy with 10 although I should have stayed on 7 for a bit longer until all these early issues were fixed and there was better driver support to go with it.

My maim problem so far is the Powerdvd is no longer working properly the sound is all choppy yet VLC works just fine and GPUz is still on and working fine

I don't have Windows 10, but after seeing for example Barnacules video on Windows 10 and privacy. I don't really like where this is all going, seemed like after he did the update, some of the privacy settings etc got restored, even though he had disabled them.
And it even added new ones, without telling you... Not sure how much of this is true, but doesn't sound all that good overall though. Atleast not to me.

Remember dude Microsoft is back porting it to Windows 7 & 8.1 as well the only way around this is not to have Windows Updates set to Auto.

Pretty much have to Google all of the KB updates from now on too.

Sorry dude, but I'm not following... They are back porting it to 7 and 8.1?

Within the next few updates for 7 - 8.1 they will be adding in all the "sharing" features that are currently already in Windows 10, the same sharing features that are cause for concern at the moment.

Really?... So they aren't just screwing with new OS users, but also users of the older versions ey?. Now that is cheeky!

Mine as well get over the sharing and data stuff. Literally everything is like that these days, IOS, Andriod, Google, FB, Twitter, etc.. can't avoid it. Disable what you can is really all we can do. I have everything disabled afaik through some service tweaks and stuff. I have W10 Pro so I think I get some more options others don't, like Defer updates for example.

You guys should check out UWT4(ultimate windows tweaker 4) as it's a very strong tool and has endless options to tweak Windows. It's also permanent too. Careful of some AV suites as they will mark it as malware since it tweaks the OS.

If you have the Pro version of 10 then defer is pointless unless your fine with updates being installed later, it won't stop them from being installed permanently, for that you need to dig through the Services and group policies same for killing defender.

The problem is that even if you tweak settings in Windows 10, Microsoft will find away around it, That is also another reason why i really dislike Windows 10, To me DX12 is not worth it for me in the long run.

I guess it's a no-win situation for MS. If they push updates mandatorily then we complain if they break things. If they don't push updates then people don't update and then they complain when their security flaws are exploited. Ultimately I think we, generally being early adopters and enthusiasts are in the minority of all windows users. The vast majority probably buy pre-installed OEM and that's it job done.

Still not 100% happy with losing the flexibility of how updates are handled but I can see why they've chosen that path. In this as well they are not alone. There are a number of other companies that force updates, typically if you need to run a certain game, app or software on top of the system. Apple, Sony (PS3 and I would also assume PS4), Android all do it.

My preference would be that they are tested and stable before being released however the sheer amount of different hardware, firmware and software combinations out in the wild make this next to impossible in reality.

It can be frustrating and a slight inconvenience but ultimately it's the way things are going.

It was just an example bud. I know it won't stop them. That's why I said use UWT4:)

Use UWT4. With every company these days they record all your data even if you disable it. That's why it's not a big deal for me and why I use a VPN for when I really need it. That's the only way to be secure virtually these days.

A new bug that I just found in the 1511 build and has been confirmed by Microsoft is that your dvd rom or bluray rom won't work they are aware of the issue and are hoping to have it patched in a week to a month

DVD-ROM? Bluray-ROM what's that then? it's been well over a year since I last used one

But seriously what is happening with Microsoft and these borked updates... they are almost as bad a Ubisoft or Warnerbros Gaming..

Fast internets. We don't have it.

Don't be too shocked when Microsoft releases the next update or the one after that, all of those tweaks people are making will go back to default.

Yes i know we have let other companies get away with it for far to long we should have been moaning about this years ago at least 5 years ago, The other problem is non tech people don't care about it IMO that is wrong.
