Windows 10 Installs Automatically On Windows 7 And Windows 8

I don't like it after the change. Lets hope that they continue to listen to us and don't pull a Win-8.

How you get the update? I didn't get it in my list after checking for updates.

And ya the new quarter snap feature they just put in last build i believe. Snap Assist they call it. Actually seems useful. I'm sure its one of those things where you don't realize how often you try to set the windows up manually or by dragging them to the top until you start using the snap assist.

Read up on it to see if you missed out on any of the features:)

Went to the website, and it done some magic and rebooted, started the update

I use 2 windows side by side alot, but always wanted a quarter feature, i even posted about a while ago saying if there was a piece of software that made it easy to integrate.

This update is for the upcoming Windows 10 Consumer Preview that is being launched later this month, it makes sense for them to do this as Windows 10 can upgrade the builds within itself, without the need to re-install the OS, so it will then be a painless upgrade to the Gold copy of the OS once it has been finished, and the build selected that they are going to use for release.

i know this sounds like a real newbish question, but I have windows7 on my SSD drive (like many others of us on here im sure) along with a few progams etc and BF4. When this upgrade comes, will it be a fresh install in my C drive and i will have to redownload all the other bit and pieces i had on the C drive again?

Cheerz in adance

It should simply move all your softwares registry etc to the new update so you shouldn't need to reinstall anything. This is if you choose to upgrade.

If you choose to run a clean install of windows then it will put all your software and windows 8/8.1 into a folder called windows.old and then install a fresh windows, with which you have to reinstall everything again.

I have tried the new Windows OS (the Enterprise Version that was posted about a month or so ago), and the thing about the preview is if you use it, then you won't be offered the free upgrade. but you can roll back to your previous OS if you want to, without reinstalling it. (I really liked that feature) and then you will be offered the windows 10 upgrade through windows update.

I've been using Windows since 3.1--when was that? 1983?--I suffered through 95 and 2K, Vista and other versions I didn't love. Then Windows 7 arrived. Never had ANY kind of problem with it. IMHO (very humble) this is the Microsoft OS that worked.

Then came Windows 8. I love my tablet. TabletS, I should say: I have 2 Dells and 2 Surfaces.-- is great for touch, not so great for regular desktops and laptops.

I've looked at some tutorials on Win10, and it doesn't sound horrible, but neither am I ecstatic about its arrival. Something else new to learn. I especially dislike that M$ is going to MAKE me have it, despite my wishes. I've managed to disable auto update on everything except my Surface Pro 2. I may have to do it like I did my Dell XPS 10.

Just ny two cents. Everyone's entitled to love or hate whatever. I just wish M$ would adopt the maxim, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

and dont fix what aint broken. SUPPORT MY W7 FOREVER.

That said since its obviously not going to happen, Im going to be upgrading all of mine prior to the end of the free upgrade.

Using your logic there would never have been a Windows 7, because we would all be using XP still.

Windows 7 brought a whole load of new features too, you had to learn those.

If we all just said "That's good enough" we would never make progress. Arguably Microsoft shouldn't make you have it no, you should want it though.
