Hmm think I'm still gonna stick with my Windows 7 it does all I need it to and plus Hogs of War on Steam doesn't work with Windows 10.

They did say one year... it's almost been one. Inevitable wasn't it?

Although I still need to update a couple old devices that my family keeps asking me to do.. lazy side of me keeps forgetting:p

I might remember wrong, but I think barnsley said that this wouldn't happen?... That Windows 10 would always be free?...

thank god it's over soon, the sly updates forcing people to update are ridiculous.

That being said, I don't think anyone will want to pay for an OS that has ads, forces updates and mines their data. Sod that

TBH Ten has been pretty good from my experience. Couple of early driver issues with sound but aside from that and a boot loop of death that probably could happen on any version it's been as good as 7 ever was for me.

From memory I paid around AUD $120?? for a Win7 OS in 2011 and it's going to be fully supported (as Win 10 Pro) for another few years yet.

Doesn't really matter what OS you use - as soon as you have FB or Google your data and privacy is out the window anyways.

Also for whatever reason you choose to upgrade or if you've chosen not to - That's your choice and that's a good thing.

Please don't complain though that you weren't given enough opportunities to do it for free.

I do hope however that Win10 will not be part of the automatic Windows update package for older versions. To force people to pay by a sneaky install process would be wrong. Especially exploiting people that just click ok to everything without reading..

I still don't care about going back to Windows 10, I'm happy with Window 8.1 and it annoys me that Microsoft keeps forcing Windows 10 on everyone even the people who don't want it.

This is from Steve Gibson from the marker of SpinRite.

"Many users of Windows 7 and 8.1 are happy with their current version of Windows, and have no wish to upgrade to Windows 10. There are many reasons for this, but among them is the fact that Windows 10 has become controversial due to Microsoft's evolution of their Windows operating system platform into a service which, among other things, aggressively monitors and reports on its users activities. This alone makes many users uncomfortable enough to cause them to choose to wait. In line with this, a few months into 2016, Windows 10 started displaying unsolicited advertisements on its users' desktops. Others dislike the changes Microsoft made by merging their failed “tiled” smartphone user-interface into the Windows UI. And, finally, some object to being force-fed whatever Microsoft wants and simply wish to choose for themselves."

we all know you're a hardcore advocate for not getting W10.. the rants can surely end..
Don't want it then don't get it, it won't be forced onto you. Whether you agree with that or not is up to you. I've seen pure user error into upgrading it when not wanted, never seen it forced. But that's subjective to personal experiences. And if you do get "forced" then you can always revert back.

Nope cause i'm not the only one who doesn't like Windows 10, I have seen it forced on people when they been streaming on Twitch and then the upgrade to Windows 10 has start.

I can rant about it as much as i want it was your choice to "Quote" me in the first place.

I don't understand why you're defending Windows 10 as much as you do.

Gents keep it civilised please.

I can see both sides of this, I really love Windows 8.1 Pro on the other hand I've come to adore 10 too. Admittedly at first I wasn't impressed but once you nerf all the spying and update stuff it is quite an agreeable OS.

I still feel Windows 10 is junk. I hate how I have to run a piece of software to get the UI the way I like . Atleast it is now working on my PC though. After all this time of it bluescreening and generally crapping the bed for no reason whenever I tried to make a change over.I doubt I'll get rid of my 8.1 image anytime soon though. Atleast now I can play forza...

I really can't switch from Windows as Linux isn't as game friendly yet. I hate being stuck to a company. The same goes for software as it does hardware, it bothers me if I have no real choice. The day I can get 90% of the games I can play on Linux I'll switch over.

10 is very much like Vista imo, except this time people are massively shilling for it. I'll look forward to the version (or rather, update) that turns it into a successor to 8.1/7/XP.

No DirectDraw emulation , broken Search and Windows buttons, numerous driver issues not to mention the hassles if custom signed drivers are needed, advertisements, collection and sharing of personal info, lack of control over core features (cortana etc) the list goes on and on, we are still a year or two until we see some real DX12 titles come to market what madness would compel someone to upgrade to win10 is beyond me.

I think I will keep my Win7 Ultimate License thanks.

The only version of Windows 10 that has been definitively said BY MICROSOFT to always be free is the Raspberry Pi version. They did make that commitment, and it was openly stated on microsoft.com.

Other than a handful of older games on Steam, which are for all intensive purposes abandonware, I haven't had any issues at all.

Spybot Anti-Beacon seems to turn off the spyware crap effectively enough, and after it's in, Windows 7 and 8 probably have more left enabled than 10.

I did find that Anti-Beacon hosed my hand crafted hosts file with it's own entries, but that was easily fixed by hand. That issue might actually be solved by SpyBot by now.

I still run a Win7 32 bit in VMware, because of a laser printer that never vgot 64 bit drivers or drivers beyond Vista, but we have upgraded our laptops and bought a key from Kinguin for this machine for 10 Pro, and I have no real complaints.
