The Switch will be a phenomenal handheld, but a mediocre console.
with a 2 hour battery life it will be a short time handheld, and with the price I can't say I'd want kids using it as a handheld

Yeah, but the 3DS battery life isn't exactly great either at times.
At least the Switch used USB Type-C, so external battery banks are an option.
Yeah the screen etc presents problems for handheld use, but in all honesty, all handhelds have the same issue of broken screens and other parts from large drops etc.
Too big IMO and nothing you can't do with a normal tablet and one of those grip controllers.
When you can get a tablet for the kids to play on for £70 and it does more than this, ok this is better quality gaming, but when kids get bored of games an android tablet can go to youtube or play films
Yeah, tablets will challenge the Switch in a BIG way. Especially given how so many games are free on those platforms. The same issue remains, you don't see many AAA games on Android.
I do hope the Switch does well, it is a great idea, but it needs cheaper accessories (3rd party versions perhaps) and a lower price. At least that is my opinion.
Nintendo also needs to get cheap games on the platform and encourage indie developments, as a handheld these days need cheap bite-sized experiences.
For the price I'd rather spend the extra $100 and get a PS4 Pro.
Totally.
When the Pro matures a little I will probably hop aboard and then spend the rest of my gaming life on a console. I'm not quite ready to be put out to pasture yet but I think my days of spending a couple of grand on GPUs are over.
looking at the list of games, they will have sort of 5 at release the rest are some time this year or next, and looking at what I consider the main ones if you have another console or PC you're going to get those on that instead of the switch
I hope I never get that old I'd consider that an option

I'm starting to develop arthritis. So much so that it's hard for me to game on my keyboard these days. Especially in something like Borderlands, where ammo does not auto collect so you have to spend the entire session mashing the E button. By the time I am done my left hand is almost completely incapacitated.
I'm hoping it doesn't go osteo like my mother's, because hers is so bad that she can hardly walk and can't have hip or knee replacements as her bones are too weak.
I'm a big fan of Nintendo, I have had pretty much all there consoles and played every Zelda title on release and was looking forward to doing the same again here but the price is too much with games and accessories, it would cost as much as an entry level gaming PC with just extra Joycons, a pro controller and a couple of games, I think the price on the system itself is not too bad but its everything you have to buy after the fact to make it more than just a bigger better 3DS that is making me skip it entirely.
Why dont Nintendo understand, you lure them in with nice reasonably priced bundles and once the sunk cost fallacy begins it is much easier to convince people to pay an extra 60 quid here or there on software and accessories but as it stands now people can see it for what it is and don't seem to be buying into it.
Anecdotally, many of the usual outlets still have Switch available for pre-order in my area, When the 3DS and New 3DS was launched they sold out by now.
