Will I Break My Board?

From looking up online they weigh 2.75 lbs each - 1.25kg.

So together that is 5.5 lbs / 2.5kg.. quite a lot of weight in my opinion to be anchored to the top of the board. I'm sure it would work and wouldn't break but I'd be surprised if the board didn't warp over time.

In my opinion you should look at other options either a lighter heatsink or something like two Corsair H80's - I personally wouldn't put the combined weight of those heatsinks on my own build. I've used a single heatsink before that wasn't even that big and saw warping of the board after 6 months, the board worked fine but it made me uneasy enough not to want to do that again.

Okay - well since I agree with you.
Lets ditch them as options.

Now its down to default coolers from Intel vs _____ (make suggestions guys).

I know you said no to water cooling but what about a closed unit like a Corsair H80?

In-fact what case are you using?

@Vicey - cant decide on waht case to get yet - was looking at case labs stuff (but could cost my arms and legs to ship and may not be the best option) - feel free to suggest away.

I plan on 4GPUs and filling the ASUS (Z9PE-D8 WS) capability for HDDs - if that helps narrow down the options (so thats 12 HDDs + BluRay + Spare HDD or extra optical drive or something).

I really have no suggestions for cases. There are so many out there but obviously you're limited to CEB compatible ones with 8 or maybe 10 expansion slots.

I think case labs make the nicest large cases but as you say they are pricey. Lian Li are a personal favorite of mine and they do sell some EATX / EEB / CEB sized cases but again pricey. My advice, check all your favorite retailers and go through every case that's what I usually do when picking one.

Something to note the new Corsair 900D might be out soon (or not) and it has 10 expansion slots and HPTX compatibility which would make it compatible with EEB / CEB. And if the leaked PDF is accurate it has 12 3.5" internal slots for hard drives, but it is a leaked slide could all be BS.
