Will a Haswell to Broadwell CPU only ugrade be possible

I am currently using a Q6600 @ 3.4Ghz on an Abit IP35 Pro
looking to upgrade to a 1150 haswell socket however I'm planning on a cheap Haswell cpu and then a upgrade to broadwell next year. I'm just hoping that someone knows if the Broadwell architecture CPU's will work in mobo's designed for Haswell.

I'd usually say it will just require a BIOS flash, but I think the latest news was that it will be the same socket, but will still require a new motherboard because of other changes. What changes exactly are outside my technical knowledge, but I think basically don't get your hopes up.

I would have thought that if they weren't compatible then Intel would have changed the socket

Not really, considering they will want the Haswell refresh to be backwards compatible with the 8 series chipset.

So your options I guess are:

1. Go cheap Haswell, upgrade to both 9 series mobo & Broadwell.
2. Go cheap Haswell, upgrade to new Haswell refresh after BIOS flash
3. Go high end Haswell and stick with it.

I thought Broadwell was the Haswell refresh and then Skylake is the 'tock' generation. But I could be wrong. After all in still running 775

Haswell -> Haswell Refresh -> Broadwell-K -> Broadwell-? (unannounced, but likely) -> Skylake

Everything in the tech world is "coming soon." You're better off just buying a setup you'll be happy with and sticking with it for a couple years, unless you are well off enough to replace every cycle.

I'd say get yourself an i7 4770k with your preferred z87 board, grab an AIO cooler, OC it then forget about it, at least till Skylake is around. You really aren't going to miss out on anything before then.
