Will a 300W PSU support this spec?

Guys

I'm putting together a HTPC and am giving serious thought to the Lian LI pc-c36 muse which comes with a 300W PSU.

Here is my proposed spec

GigaByte MA78GPM-DS2H Motherboard (includes onboard HDMI graphics, and SPDIF sound).

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4850e 2.5GHz

2GB DDR2 6400 Memory

Samsung SpinPoint HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive SATAII

LG GGC H20L Bluray/HDDVD sata drive

USB WiFi Adapter

Is 300W ample for this spec considering there is no additional GPU?

Should be fine tbh. As long as your not overclocking heavily or stressing the CPU constantly.

Thanks HAM - there shouldn't be much need for overclocking as most of the material will be DVD iso's on the harddrive.

All the info I can find on the PSU is the following

"The PC-C36 supports the Micro-ATX form factor and will be shipped with a 300W TFX power supply as standard. The TFX power supply which has an 8cm internal fan as well as the usual exhaust fan has been aligned to assist in venting the hot air trapped inside the case."

I have owned Lian Li cases before but never with an included PSU, but if the standard of the case is anything to go by the PSU should be ok, right?
 
Its hard to say really. I'm pretty sure that Lian Li would choose a reasonable OEM for the PSU but it still wont be great.

Given your specs tho, I cant see that pulling more than 200w, so you should be fine.

Try it. If it keeps shutting down on you under heavy load or applications start crashing then look at the PSU first for your answer :)
 
I've been doing a bit of research today and the Lian Li PC-C37 doesn't include a PSU. There is however space for a full ATX PSU in there.

Bearing in mind the spec above, and the fact there will be no GPU, what would be the best PSU to look at in terms of performance and quietness - again I'm thinking of something in around the 300W mark.

Pretty much as Jim said. If it`s a badged 300w generic psu I`d be worried -possibly. If it`s a quality one I`d not be worried.

Saying that, quality 400w ones are pretty darn cheap these days.
 
^^^ can`t argue with that link tbh.

I haven`t scouted for any other ones, but I have 2 or 3 varieties of those running in the house atm. Very much like that manufacturer tbh.
 
Yeah I cant imagine it being very noisy as its a fairly low wattage unit and chances are ti will probably only be running at 40-50% load most of the time.
