Wierd lockup problem?

Ok so I have a VERY strange problem and I don't know what the culprit is as of yet... Here's the deal; I can run 3dMark05 just fine fully overclocked @ my 1.65vcore etc etc, but when I reboot in to no services/startup item mode for max performance 3dmark locks up on me EVERY single time in the second CPU test. Now why on earth would it do that when Windows has more available resources etc for it, but when I'm running it normally while folding and doing all sorts of other stuff it runs just fine... Could this possibly be some sort of nVidia driver problem (wierd because its during a CPU test if this is the case, and I havent tried a different driver as of yet to test this theory), is it my processor acting up, or is it Windows acting up because I have all of the services disabled?

Anyone else ever had a problem like this before? I don't really suspect CPU instability as I'm 12+ hour Orthos stable, 32mb SPi stable, etc...

Any suggestions welcomed.

I would have tought it would be a bug somwhere. Whether its windows missing an essential app, or nvidia drivers being a pita i dont know. Got time for a format?

What version or the nvidia drivers are you using?

I'm actually preparing for a format right now, trying to figure out the hardware RAID on the 975X chipset, I don't see any RAID config screens anywhere in the BIOS, sigh.

I have similar problems dude. I boot in "Diagnostic Mode" from msconfig so all my services and junk are disabled and everything funks out. Sometimes it BSOD's for no reason, and sometimes 3DMark even crashes on launch. But I play CS:S for a few hrs straight, run WCG all night long, etc.

I think it's just MS bein retarded.

Funny thing, I'm about ready to format too (tomorrow prolly.)

Got a brand new sealed Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB sitting right here, waiting to pwn.

Just formatted and put 2 x 320gb 7200.10's in RAID 0 and they are just tearin' down the house.... SOOOO fast.

Yeah, I'm sittin here formatting on my new drive atm. Don't have school for rest of week and I wanted to do it on a day where I didn't have to go to bed early that night.

My dad has a 320GB Single too, it's fast as crap. I can't wait :D

I tell ya, these > raptors any day. I don't care what anyone says.

My friend fhpchris @ xs has four of them in Raid0.

Yeah. I'd like to see 4 raptors come close.

Thought I'd pipe in...

Raptors are fast, got 2 36GBers in my rig, but these new 7200rpm HDD's are still with them. I put 3 Hitachi 160GB HDD's in a RAID 0, and still had an average of 140MBs bandwidth (think that's it...) reading from SiSandra testing.

Read a Newegg review from some dude that laughed at the Raptors, said he could run 7200rpm HDD's faster than Raptors by RAIDing them and then making seperate partitions... going to test that theory soon:D .

Frag: Sounds like you disabled one too many services in the pursuit of speed... me, I run all my tests with my pc as I use it. I may stop some system tray icons from booting up, go into services and stop something that has no reason to take up system resources, but other than that I want to know the speed I'm getting while running at my everyday setup (keeps me from wasting further time trying to figure out what I did wrong, which I usually can't do anyway.)

Frag is this on u`r Vista or XP rig ?

I do also have a vague memory of u trying out the latest nVidia drivers ? might be wrong, but roll em back if u have and see what happens.
