Why is it Called the Faildozer???

well as i mentioned in previous post my evgaa p55 ftw 200 is failing. i been looking at 3 system options lga 2011, 1155, & bulldozer. everyone keeps calling it the faildozer and i was just curious how has it failed and wouldn't it work better with a radeon then a intel chipset?? main reason i am interested the am3+ so much is cost and the high end 990 board features all seam to be loaded with sata iii and usb 3.0.

Simply put, for gaming the intel chips are clock for clock much faster and each intel core is worth 1 bulldozer module (i.e. two "cores"), so even a 2500K at stock will beat a moderately overclocked BD chip and a highly clock intel chip (1155 2500K at 4.5GHz for example), will be much faster.

The radeons will work equally well with either intel or amd from a pure PCIe link speed point of view, but the processor in the intel case is faster. Overall a high end intel board will have USB3 and SATA III.

If you are building a gaming PC, use intel, they're cooler and faster.

The bulldozer failed to deliver better performance compared to the older phenom II cpu.And it failed hard.Heat is also a big issue. There is so much wrong its simply called faildozer.

Faildozer is putting it politely. I call it Poodozer.

Basically AMD came up with a new core technology that isn't yet supported properly by Windows. This could change in Windows 8 but it was a huge gamble that did not pay off.

It worked for them with the Athlon XP, because the XP was fast in other versions of Windows (even though it was primarily designed for Windows XP hence the name).

Basically all they ended up doing was making a chip with loads of cores as the selling point, whilst failing to realise that most applications still only use two cores. So whilst it could be said that they are good value per core that's about all they have going for them. Infact, in many instances the old Phenom 2 chips are actually faster.

The revised chips which are coming out soon are apparently going to be better, but this round definitely belongs to Intel hands down.

Now what they should have done was just rebrand Magny Cours and sell that as a desktop CPU. Sure it still wouldn't have taken the crown from Intel, but I am sure it could have worked out cheaper for them to produce, and thus cheaper for them to sell on. And Magny Cours has up to 16 cores IIRC, so 12 and 16 core chips would have sounded a lot better to your target audience.

It's cost them big time. Not only did they have to lay off 10% of their staff but they have also made major cuts to other operations and have now fired their marketing manager. This in turn has led to huge price hikes on the forthcoming 7000 series Tahiti GPUs, breaking all records for price.

Apparently the 7990 is going to cost a ball busting $850, the highest price ever for a desktop GPU. And the 7970 which is only a single core is going to cost upward of $500. I just hope for their sake that Fermi really has been pushed to the limit, because if it does have anything left in the tank it could well knock on the door of the 7970 and cost far less. This will put AMD in even deeper chit than they are in right now. They can't afford to lose another round anywhere, let alone in the GPU arena.

OK well I just had a look and it seems that the most expensive Tesla GPU has 512 CUDA cores.

Sadly the 580 already has 512 CUDA cores, so it seems that could be the maximum achievable by Fermi.

I could be wrong mind, but it seems Nvidia have already taken Fermi as far as it can go.

i bought it anyway, and im happy with it, it has twice the performance of my old athlon 64

but i dont game, i just like AMDs ......

blimey not win7 supported, does it come with a shiny new Win Vista supported sticker? It's gona play a long game with the dozer i spies, not fun. The AMD 7xxx will rule because of the new chip tech, though drivers is a different case. Chip design is where it'll be overcome with nvidia's intelligence on the 28nm, me would bet £20, me thinks

It's not the first time AMD have done this and it won't be the last.

The big problem they face is even if it does perform better in Windows 8 Windows 8 has been designed for tablets and touch screen laptops.

I installed the Beta a few months back and it lasted a whopping 20 minutes before I got pissed looking for the device manager and imaged 7 back on.

Hilariously when you Google Windows 8 you mostly find web pages "Make Windows 8 look just like Windows 7 !"

That's because windows 8 f'ing sucks! I've told everyone from the second i heard they were trying to make it tablet friendly, that it would pretty much fail on a non-touchscreen device.

I just built my brother a rig using the 6100FX and the ASUS M5A99X EVO. overclocked it to 4.0GHz @ 1.3V on air 70+ degrees, I noticed at this speed it performs the same as my I7920 at default settings. in Cinebench PC mark almost same scores.
