Why has this not been done yet?

I am guessing you mean a Micro SD slot on a motherboard with a Windows ISO provided with each motherboard on a Micro SD card?

If that's what you mean then personally I would see it as pointless since people will already either have the Windows disc, or they will have the ISO files and just use a pen drive instead of a disc since it's faster.

The other thing will be that some people don't use Windows and instead use Linux or Mac OS.

Not quite what I meant, but close. My point is why can't we embed the OS to the motherboard like the bios, and let windows update directly to that drive. It could also mean no more waste spent on creating system rescue disks sent out with each new pc. It does not matter what OS it happens to be, we don't really need the disks at this point.

System disks dont get sent out anymore. Also allowing end users decide what OS level and drive they want to use means we have more choice. Not everyone can afford the latest 1.2TB Intel NVME drive for example, end users have a whole range of requirements in both capacity and performance

That's true, but it's just a small place to store an ISO and possibly updates for the OS. It could be ran on any driveyou choose to instal it on.
