It is becoming more possible with Oled displays because they can make the light source MUCH smaller. You brought up television that have thin bezels, have you seen the price on some of them?
LG makes one for about $6,000
And Samsung makes a few in the $3,000 range
It all comes down to price and what the market wants. Companies are not going to invest thousands of man hours creating a display if the only people who want it can be counted on the researchers hands.
The only reason they are growing in the TV department was because there was a demand for it because having a huge bezel was not only unattractive for a "Home Theater" display, it took up more room. The people who want thin bezels are looking and doing multiple display setups which is absolutely minuscule and large companies which is why Samsung charges out the nose for them.
