Who Cant Cool a Corsair 300r ?

So after watching Toms review on the 300r and liking it lots, a friend of mine asked me too build him a budget watercooled rig based on an OCd AMD FX8120 + GTX 560ti.

So i took up the challenge to prove old Tom wrong and too water cool a 300r, heres the results...

I can post the pictures in here if you would like, rather than have too look through my album, its up to you chaps.

What are the temps and the noise like with only two 120mm rads? Quite a lot of tubing imo, doesn't look too bad though I have to admit. Personally I don't think it's worth water cooling a 560ti

i think you took the context of the video chat incorrectly.. i believe he was leading
to, water-cooling this type of case (inexpensive) is really not plausible for the
enthusiast type of customer. budget game systems are were this case fell into.
stuffing over £90 of water-cooling gear in a £60 case isn't really the way to go,
you'd want to spend £90 on the case and build up the system from there with the
gambit of options available. he wasn't saying it couldn't be done, it's why would you?
he'd mounted the H80 to show it can be done and there is a critical issue about the
roof fans.

glad to see it worked out for you. but a question, the front bulhead was so stout
wihout a lot of "breathing" how did you over come that issue? i see that it might have
been cut out like the roof?

Ok everybodys taking this the wrong way, i just did it as a project, i had all the kit just lying about on shelves, mainly old gear, as for only 2 x 120mm rads, they work very well indeed, the CPU is OCd to 4.3ghz and under prime small fft test does not exceed 50c as for the GPU it never ever rises above 35c.

As for the front bulkead look at those pics again, as its the front i cut out with a dremel, only retaining the 140mm mounts hence the use of the 140 to 120mm adaptors, and the case still remains as strong as it ever was.

I never expected such negativity on my build, thought it worked out ok and looked nice, maybe my original post came over as arsy, but trust me it was not meant that way.

Sorry - just for WC we have the mentality that you do it properly or not at all. As for temps, that sounds very dodgey for temps...

HW Monitor and prime screen shots?

Do it properly? Why did i not use Water or radiators or a pump or water blocks or hoses, you talking complete bollocks and just being elitist stuck up snobs.

Well dont know if there is any misunderstanding with your first post but i must say the rig looks quite good and for such a small budget works out pretty well if you get those temps.

Thankyou, my friend is also very happy with it.

Calling people stuck up snobs after 4 posts...this is gunna last long.

You came to enthusiast forums, trying to brag that you've done something our head guy couldnt. We have pretty high standards here for watercooling, usually when we have a cpu and gpu in the loop we'd say no less than a 60mm thick 360mm rad.

You came to these forums looking for opinions and to generally ask peoples views on a build, I voiced my opinion. Don't get pissy that it wasnt what you wanted to hear.

I never said he couldnt do it.....yes and your attitude has lost you a new forum member, good bye and enjoy your little club.

Tbh i dont think that looks particularly bad. Its probably not the way id have done it (although this is coming from a guy who's only watercooling experience was a thermaltake kandalf lcs...), but for a friend on a budget, it looks pretty good to me.

Personally 'water cooling' and 'budget' dont really go together in my mind. Just doesnt seem worth spending the time and money unless your system is like £1200+ before cooling. But each to his own :) if i was his friend and id asked for budget watercooling and got that, id be pretty happy.

You guys just pissed another member away, good job!
Could have handled the issue with a bit more subtlety and politeness though.

tbf, He cant get pissy if 1 person dislikes his build... Do we really want people like that on the forums anyway?

I never said I didnt like the aesthetics btw - just that I dont see the point in using 120mm rads, and cant exactly brag about using them, and it's bang out of order for anyone to come to the forums and be saying others are talking bollocks and calling me an 'elitest stuck up knob'. When he can quite clearly see that I dont even have watercooling myself...

That's the whole point mate. If you do not have watercooling or you aren't experienced enough, why comment? Using no less than 60mm 360 radiator for a cpu+gpu block is not for you to say because you haven't used it. Maybe he was right, maybe his 2X 120mm setup could have sufficed...why argue about it?

...I have watercooled before...? My current rig just isnt, although when I get finances it will be.

As for the 60mm thick 360 - maybe 60mm thick isnt necessarily needed, but I wouldnt be wanting any less than 360 30/35mm thick for a gpu. Certainly not 240mm for CPU and GPU. On my mates 3570k which would be running cooler than his Bulldozer alone, we used an EX240, and temps still werent that comfortable. Hence why I'm incredible dubious if he's got a gpu and cpu running off 240mm total.

Anyway - regardless of this - I didnt say anything out of order, and definitely did not say anything to call for the comments he gave

Thank you for leaving yourself.
I don't think this internet family wants people in it who can't handle criticism. OC3D is like a family and like TTL said: "Fit in or f*** off!".
