hey peeps,
i am out to buy some new graphics cards now, i have always had amd apart from a 8800gts, which i still have and runs well.
i dont know which way to go this time, i run triple screen quite a bit for sim racing and was debating on a pair of 480/580's, but into the mix comes a 1080 as i can get 1 for around the price of 2 480's. would the pair of 480's be as good as the 1080 ?, at the moment i cant be assed waiting for the vega cards, i am currently running a 290x lightning which is a half decent card so would go in my second gaming pc. HELP

ps, how is the 1080 for arranging the triple screens ? is it as easy as the amd cards eyefinity

cheers guys and galls

Yep single big card over two cards. Some games still ignore the 2nd GPU so if youre spending the money in one hit - get a 1080

cheers guys for the replies, how about setting up the 1080 for triple screening ? is it as easy as the amd software ?

tom, it is 3 1080p 27" screens, i thought the 1080 card was a good 4k card, so should run 3 1080p screens ok shouldn't it ?.

NVidia triple screen handling is very similar to eyefinity for everyday desktop use. I use a 1060 for 3x1080 24" screens (I don't game). I previously had an eyefinity setup and there's hardly any difference. Depending on your monitors and card, you might need some dp to dvi adapters - I use 2 - they are the same sapphire active dp adapters that I used for the eyefinity setup. Apparently you can use passive ones as well, but I've not tested this.

What games are you playing? A 1080 is enough for 1080p surround, but it's cutting it close in certain titles. Unless your screens are Gsync compatible, Vega might be another option. Waiting for it could pay off. Or it could be a disappointment and you could still buy a GTX 1080. Buy the most powerful single GPU you can afford. If you can't run every game at 60 FPS with high settings, turn settings down until you can. It sucks but that's the compromise you decide to make running that high of a resolution. For instance, I'd rather run 1440p/90FPS with settings lowered than 1080p/144FPS and settings cranked. And I'd definitely prefer it to 4k/60FPS with loads of settings turned down. That's my compromise.
