Where are AMD Socket AM2 kits?

Intel support only?

I have a Mach I/AMD socket 932 and want to continue to use it with a new AMD CPU (I dont even see a CPU kit for a mach I w/latest intel CPU either).

Is this the end of the road for me? (and that would make me extremely unhappy, i've supported Prometeia for many years, why should I be left out in the cold. (no pun intended)

Hook it up to a molex ;) I`ve got mine set up like that :)

Oh, you mean it's a CONNECTOR issue, not a mounting one. No problem! I ran in to that with the 64/FX CPU Kit too and (another vendor) had an adapter that went from the 2 pin prommie style to a molex so I'm good to go then. Thanks!

I know i'm being a pain but...(you knew that was coming eh?)

AMD in it's "INFINITE WISDOM" has chosen to link it's one and only multiplier unlocked CPU, The FX, to socket 1207 (like the opterons) So, for any "real" overclocking (whereas both the FSB and the CPU are tweaked) on the AMD side there is going to need to be a socket 1207 kit. I have seen nary a whisper of such an animal and with there being a "limited" user base for socket 1207, on the enthusiest front from the motherboard vendors, it's doubtful there will be one designed for socket 1207. Right?

(yes, I dislike Intel THAT much but it's just my personal choice, i am not insinuating a flame war ok?)

1207 wont be a desktop AMD socket until the end of the year-ish, so it`ll probs come out in due time. AFAIK the 1207 sockets are server-only at the mo.

AMD are playing silly buggers with sockets again I think...they did this when A64 first came out.

Indeed 1207's are server sockets since they are all opterons. The FX 7x series are already 1207 and will continue to be. You point exactly that since its not desktop, motherboards that fit this are geared toward that arena and there is no such thing like "enthusiest class" (read: voltage and overclocking adjustments). So it's amazing to me AMD tied FX to the 1207 "server" platform when, by it's very nature, is INTENDED for such activity and use!!

I mean this in the nicest possible way but if you plan to set up 2 phase units to a 4x4 at the mo...you're an idiot :p

Once/if 1207 makes it to "normal" desktop AMD, there`ll be a socket kit for it :)

Ahh, sorry, I did not "elaborate". I'm talking about the upcoming BARCELONA (true) Quad core FX. Sure there will be some MB's that you can do 2 and go 8 core but I just want one. :-)

Well Barcelona is still a ways off, R600 is going to be a pig so looks like I am going to suck it up and go Intel quad 6600 and Nvidia SLI. I'm really beating this thing up in 3DS max/Photoshop/zbrush, So it's time to put more ponies under the hood.

I want quad core and 4GB ram to start with (will dual boot XP and Vista, I know I wont see all the ram in XP) But since this CPU has a locked multiplier its going to be all FSB for me so need real fast RAM.

(I will be happy to entertain motherboard suggestions for this setup. I guess I will have to get an Nvidia board as Intel branded multi-GPU motherboards are supporting crossfire)

Anyways, I am ASSUMING the LGA775 kit will work with the Mach I (and I am assuming the kit will work with the q6600)

Thoughts?

You are correct. The LGA775 will work fine with the Mach 1 although you will not be able to attach the heating element. (not essential anyway).

Awesome. and thanks for quick reply!

I see there are long lead times on the kit, which is no problem. I'm in U.S. so guess I will order across the pond from you. Seems all the prommie U.S. sites I had bookmarked are dead and gone. One in canada i've worked with before but 775 kits are not even listed there.
