Whats with the 7000 series?

So it looks like (from all the rumors) AMD GPUs are no longer going to be the biggest bang for the buck anymore unless Nvidias Kepler will cost more that $600 for their single GPU solutions. I have been seeing rumors that the 7970 will be $550!!! WTF to the max. The ONLY way I would even remotely consider this card is if its performance is roughly 20% slower than my 6990 which I spent $700 on.

At least the 6970s will be cheaper and I can look into a trifire setup.

The price has already dropped to $475, I reckon the price will drop a bit more when Nvidia brings their cards out as well.

The 7970 will should be $475 on release

Seems to me like they released the best 7xxx to cream off a boat load of revenue before Nvidia hammers the 7970, then once AMD know what they're dealing with further down the chain they'll roll out the rest of the 7xxx's. Or, that may be completely wrong and the majority of the 7xxx's are APUs

I dont much care one way or another. But all I know is once they are released the 6900 series will be cheaper. Then I will get either a 6970 or a 6990 depending if I want to spend another $300 on water cooling that one as well.

That's what I did when 5xxx dropped. I don't care if I miss out on future graphics improvements, I like the quality the 5xxx play at and they'll play at that quality till the cards conk out - whether it's classified as low/ medium/ high is irrelevant, it's the same quality you payed for. If you like the quality the 6xxx play at then it's a great idea to pick up the bargains

Whats with the 7970 series? A legit power socket

Whats with the 7950 series? A 7970 chip with a down-graded BIOS and no power sockets to support the 7970 BIOS, still it's flashable without warranty, erm. . .

Looks like 7000's a much more economical and ecological than current gen so I advise if you need (if your cuurent isn't powerful enough) to upgrade wait for the next gen

Depends to what degree 6xxx are dropped when 7xxx appear

Im stunned by the prizes of this card. Here in Norway they cost almost as mutch as a 590 or a 6990. The 6970 is 200£+ cheaper then the 7970. Id pick a 590, 6990 or two 6970's before i buy this overprized new card from amd. In my eyes, this prizing is another massive fail by amd.

New tech, less power, most powerful single GPU in the world to buy now, that's why it's attracting a premium. Also, Nvidias Kepler is late to the party, so prices will stay higher due to no competition until the 6** Nvidia Keplers release.
